This #NationalFarmSafetyWeek, we’re shining the #SafetySpotlight on older farmers! 🔦 Older farmers are injured and killed more often at work than other age groups. This is partly due to 55% of workers being 50 years and older in the agriculture industry compared to 29% across other Australian industries on average (2022). If you’re an older farmer, there are things you can do to stay safe such as: 👨🌾 rethinking how you do different jobs around the farm, or 🦺 using additional safety equipment which you may not have used in your younger days. It’s never too late to learn or try something new, if it gets you home safe to your family! Guest Speaker on BBC Radio Shropshire I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in a discussion on rural crime in Shropshire this morning alongside Jesse of Elite Security. I pointed out the three main components of Rural Security 1. Regional Crime Units being proactive 2. Technical & Physical Security Measures working 3. The farmers themselves With the weak link in the system and no disrespect intended, being the farmers and farm workers. This is because of the lack of a security culture within the farming industry. Getting a security culture much like young military or police recruits, starts at day 1 of their careers, so for the young farmers who go to Agricultural colleges, this is where rural security should be embedded in the farming curriculum, so right from the off, youngsters understand the need to maintain a security culture. Security guidelines does not mean you have it covered. You need: 1. Farm Security & mitigation measures 2. Rural Situational Awareness 3. Rural Conflict Management 4. Criminal Modus Operandi 5. Confrontation and Confidence You don’t get that reading about it or issuing guidelines. If the security culture does not change, the next generation of farmers will not have an industry to study, because the criminals will have ruined more and more farms, and the farmers will take the buck and sell the land to developers. In a major win for farmers across America, a Texas federal court issued a preliminary nationwide injunction halting the Biden Administration from awarding disaster relief based on race and sex following a lawsuit brought by Mountain States Legal Foundation and Southeastern Legal Foundation on behalf of Texas farmers. Under an illegal and unconstitutional funding program, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been awarding more congressional disaster relief money to “socially disadvantaged” farmers—farmers who are of certain races or women—than other farmers. Plaintiffs Rusty Strickland, Alan West, and Bryan Baker—all white men who were not “socially disadvantaged” or “underserved” as USDA defined those terms—received less money in disaster relief funds than if they had been of a different race or sex. The court held that the program runs afoul of the constitutional guarantee of equality because it discriminates on the basis of race and sex. It granted Plaintiffs’ request to halt the Biden Administration from continuing the program unless and until it stops this discrimination. Mountain States Legal Foundation states, “Discrimination has no place in federal spending. MSLF and SLF have stopped the Biden Administration from implementing their racist spending programs before, but the government apparently failed to learn the lesson. This latest injunction halting discriminatory disaster relief will be a fresh reminder that we are all created equal, and that the Constitution guarantees Americans the equal protection of the laws.” Southeastern Legal Foundation states, “This is a major win for freedom and equality in our nation. Every executive agency under the Biden Administration has adopted so-called equity, which is not the same as equality because it promotes socially engineered outcomes instead of equal opportunity. We are pleased that the court agrees and sees through the USDA’s unconstitutional scheme, and we are proud to stand beside America’s farmers in holding their government accountable.”   #pressrelease #victory #breakingnews
