In light of the recent veto by the United States regarding the 2023 humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, it's crucial to voice our concern and disappointment. The situation in Gaza, as depicted in the post, is heart-wrenching and calls for immediate attention and action. Hospitals crumbling and children in distress are not just regional issues but a matter of global humanitarian crisis. The power to make a positive change, to heal rather than harm, should always be the priority in international politics. It's essential that we, as a global community, advocate for peace and support measures that prioritize human welfare and dignity above all. #humanitarianaid #gaza #peace #globalcommunity #humanrights #politicalawareness #advocacy #socialresponsibility #internationalrelations #compassion
One of the most disgraceful VETO by the United States: 2023 humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. The picture says it all… Raise the hand, “Hail the suffering” Raise the hand, “Hail the ruin” Raise the hand, “Hail the killing” Raise the hand, blind and chilling Raise the hand, in a motion cold and stark Raise the hand, “Hail the dark” Hospitals crumble, children weep, yet power plays its part, With a hand that could heal, chooses instead to break the heart!

Humanitarian ceasefire? Let them tell that to kids wandering in this world without their parents, sisters without brothers, husbands without wives. Let them tell that to young people without arms, legs, toes, souls. Let them tell that to kidnapped babies, teenagers, mothers. Let them tell that to a nation whose soul was executed, a galloping herd with no destination, who then needs to legitimize to detached parties its right to fight for hope, for consolation, at least of some kind. We have 241 kidnapped people in Gaza. If you are supporting a humanitarian ceasefire of any kind, while ignoring our people, firstly kindly suggest to Hamas 241 of your people instead of ours.

Nobody wants to see the horrors of the situation in Gaza, or what’s being experienced by Palestinian and Israeli children, continue – but the conversation about how to stop it appears to be going nowhere. At Save the Children we have called for a ceasefire, but there are many well-meaning people who disagree with us, so I’ve put together some thoughts on this in this blog: https://lnkd.in/er_AF8AR If any light is to come from these dark days, it is vital that a ceasefire is the first step, not the last. It must be a route to a peace process that has the voices and hopes of Palestinian and Israeli children at its heart, to seek to build a future that can fulfil their dreams. We must have no less ambition for these children than we would for our own. Eglantyne Jebb, who founded Save the Children over 100 years ago, said “humanity owes the child the best it has to give.” Nobody could claim that we are currently giving our best to Palestinian or Israeli children. But we can’t do better until the fighting stops.

With every passing minute, we are losing more human lives – people with families and hopes, who once loved and dreamed. We reiterate the #Funders4Ceasefire call for: 🆘 An immediate ceasefire; 🆘 Safe, unimpeded passage of humanitarian aid (including food, water, medicine, and fuel), humanitarian organizations, staff and medical professionals into all areas of Gaza in a way that is sufficient and sustained enough to meet the scale of the catastrophe; 🆘 Stopping US and European funding and weapons for the Israeli military; 🆘Adherence to international humanitarian and human rights laws by all parties, including the safe release of all civilians taken hostage from Israel as well as of all Palestinians who have been unlawfully detained. We are part of 1000+ foundations and individual donors around the world who have signed onto the Philanthropy Open Letter for Humanity and Justice in Palestine and Israel demanding an immediate ceasefire. We are institutional funders, individual donors and philanthropy professionals who are heartbroken and grieving the tragic loss of life in Palestine and Israel. The temporary pause was not enough - the Israeli military has resumed its bombing of Gaza. In the face of so much pain and suffering, we call forth our deepest sense of humanity and justice, because we know that none of us are free until all of us are free. As a clinical psychologist, I witness firsthand the invisible scars etched onto the souls of children who have endured the horrors of war and crisis. These young minds, meant to blossom in a world of wonder and play, are instead forced to confront realities no child should ever bear. The impact on their mental health is profound and far-reaching. Across the globe, children are being robbed of their innocence and forced to bear the heavy burdens of war and crisis. From the brutal realities of armed conflict to the displacement and uncertainty of humanitarian emergencies, these young lives are deeply affected, often with lasting consequences for their mental health. The Battlefield Within: Trauma's Shadow: Witnessing violence, displacement, and loss can inflict deep emotional wounds. From nightmares and flashbacks to anxiety and depression, the trauma's grip can manifest in various ways, hindering healthy development and social interaction. Witnessing violence, losing loved ones, and living in constant fear can leave deep emotional scars on children. They may experience anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and nightmares. Broken Bonds: The very fabric of their support system, often their families and communities, can be ripped apart. This severing of crucial connections breeds feelings of isolation, loneliness, and insecurity, making it difficult to trust and form healthy attachments. Being uprooted from their communities and familiar surroundings leaves children feeling vulnerable and insecure. They may grieve the loss of their homes, friends, and loved ones. Stolen Childhoods: Education, play, and carefree exploration – the cornerstones of a healthy childhood – are cruelly snatched away. This robbed innocence and lost sense of normalcy can leave children feeling disoriented, disillusioned, and robbed of their future. Facing the lack of access to basic basic needs like in refugee camps and conflict zones, children often lack access to food, water, sanitation, and healthcare. This can exacerbate their vulnerabilities and impact their mental well-being. As Global Citizens, We Can Make a Difference: Supporting humanitarian organizations: Donate to charities working to provide children in conflict zones with food, shelter, healthcare, and psychosocial support. Advocating for peace: Raise your voice against war and conflict, and support initiatives that promote peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Spreading awareness: Educate others about the mental health impact of war and crisis on children, and encourage open conversations about these issues. Remember, even small acts of compassion can make a world of difference. By working together, we can create a world where every child, regardless of the circumstances they face, has the opportunity to heal, thrive, and build a brighter future. Let us be their voice, their solace, and their unwavering hope in the face of unimaginable darkness. 🌻
"I love my two birds, they are my best friends now and I take good care of them,” says six-year-old Fares. When Fares, originally from Khan Younis City, Gaza, was forced to move with his family to Rafah, he was determined not to abandon his two birds, so he took them with him. “I wish the war would end soon, so I could go back to my room, my neighbourhood and my friends.” Every child has a right to be safe. Children need a humanitarian ceasefire. Now.
