What is Placemaking? Where Places Transcend Space ✨ In today's evolving landscape, placemaking isn't just about design – it's about orchestrating spaces that create meaningful connections and deliver measurable value. True placemaking transforms ordinary spaces into extraordinary destinations where: • Communities naturally gather and thrive • Footfall increases by up to 45% (Project for Public Spaces) • Rental yields grow 8-15% over five years (Knight Frank Middle East) • Tenant retention strengthens significantly • Social value creates lasting impact The science of successful placemaking combines: • Human-centric design that unlocks potential • Community psychology that builds connection • Strategic activation that energises spaces • Cultural programming that enriches experiences • Digital innovation that enhances engagement Having delivered placemaking consultancy for over 60 destinations across prime assets in the UK, European and MENA markets, including global giga-projects and mixed-use developments, I've witnessed how thoughtfully crafted spaces can transcend their physical boundaries, creating places that resonate deeply with communities while delivering exceptional commercial value. What makes a place truly remarkable in your experience? Do you have a good example of placemaking you can share- either a small tactical campaign or large scale strategic approach? #Placemaking #AstralPlacemakingGroup #RealEstate #CommunityDevelopment #PropertyDevelopment #Innovation #UrbanDevelopment #PlacemakingConsultancy

Answer: High-quality placemaking. “Placemaking” is the key to creating enduring real estate value in a location that has not already exploded. What is placemaking? 1/3 Think of it as quality design that puts people first; programming that brings visitors to a site; investments such as artwork that inspire and attract visitors; and a whole lot of “sex and magic.” Great examples: @rockcenternyc, @SeasideFL_, and (of course) Camp North End 2/3 Photo source: @WSJ How a Once Unpaved Stretch of Highway Became One of Florida’s Hottest Rental Markets https://t.co/Xi4v9v6vLe 3/3

Placemaking goes beyond just aesthetics. It's about creating spaces that: Foster social connections: Bringing people together and encouraging interaction. Enhance quality of life: Making neighbourhoods more vibrant and enjoyable. Promote economic development: Creating attractive spaces that can draw businesses and residents. Reflect local identity: Shaping spaces that represent the unique character of a community. Placemaking is a powerful tool for shaping our cities and towns into places that are not just functional, but also meaningful and enjoyable for everyone. There are a few reasons why placemaking remains a topic of discussion and can be misunderstood: Competing Priorities Short-term gains: City planning often prioritizes immediate economic benefits over long-term social and environmental goals. Traffic flow: Car-centric infrastructure can still dominate, prioritizing vehicle movement over pedestrian and public spaces. Difficulty in Measurement Subjectivity: It can be challenging to quantify the impact of placemaking on things like social connection and well-being. Long-term benefits: The positive effects of placemaking may take years to become fully apparent. Public Misconceptions Focus on aesthetics: Some might see placemaking as simply beautification projects, overlooking the social and functional aspects. Gentrification concerns: There's a fear that successful placemaking projects can lead to rising property values and displacement of existing residents. However, there's a growing recognition of the value of placemaking. As cities grow, well-designed public spaces become even more crucial for social interaction and a sense of community. There's a growing focus on walkable, sustainable cities with a strong sense of place. Is data and advocacy the answer? Tools are being developed to better measure the positive impact of placemaking on social and economic factors. By promoting awareness and demonstrating the benefits, placemaking can move from a misunderstood concept to a standard practice in creating vibrant and liveable communities. So get out there. Speak up. Promote. #urbandesign #cities #planning #placemaking #streets #Launceston

During the Coliving Conference, Katia Dimova from Chateau Coliving & Coworking shared an insight that really stuck with me: "You can attract tenants with nice, good-looking spaces, but after a while, they get used to their room. To keep them, you must deliver a great tenant experience." In my conversations with starting or experienced property operators, I see too many focusing mainly on creating attractive spaces. While aesthetics are important, they often ignore the operational process that defines a tenant's experience. Sure, you’ll attract them, but what happens when you lose them after two weeks because service tickets are ignored, invoices are wrong, and communication is poor? 🤔 ➡️ To all future tenants: Don’t judge a book by its cover. Operational efficiency matters just as much as a beautiful room or fancy amenities. #PropertyManagement #TenantExperience #Powerhouse #OperationalEfficiency
