Security Politics, an intersection of national and international security issues with political processes and considerations, is a complex field that examines how security concerns influence political decisions and the implications for both domestic and global stability. Various aspects of this are: 1) Policy Making related to balancing national interests with international obligations; 2) International Relations related to the role of security in diplomatic relations, alliances, and conflicts between states; 3) Terrorism and Counterterrorism related to political response; 4) Defense Spending related to the political debates surrounding national defense; 5) Human Rights related to the impact leading to political controversy; and 6) Cybersecurity related to the politics of protecting national infrastructure from cyber threats and the implications for privacy and surveillance. On January 13, Taiwan will choose a new president to replace the Democratic People's Party Tsai Ing-Wen, who is stepping down after 8 years in power. The next Taiwanese president will continue to face an assertive China across military, espionage, and economic domains. Cross-Strait relations are a political cleavage in the elections, but they are conditioned by the rising cost of living and policy areas.
