A Global Industry Alliance for Marine Biosafety study on impacts of biofouling on GHG emissions has found that only a thin layer of slime on a ship's hull can increase GHG emissions by up to 25%. Global Industry Alliance for Marine Biosafety funded a study: on impacts of biofouling on GHG emissions; which found that only a thin layer of slime on ships' hull can increase GHG emissions for up to 25%. On #WorldEnvironmentDay together with our sister project IMO-NORAD TEST Biofouling project we would like to continue raising awareness that following good biofouling management practices is beneficial to the environment both from biodiversity and climate change aspects, i.e. prevents the spread of invasive species and reduces GHG emissions.
