In this context, artillery capabilities have regained significance, with a clear emphasis on survivability, quality, quantity, range, but also on adequate munition stocks and production capacity. However, successful integration into a wider array of capabilities (including long range precision fires) and advanced Intelligence Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities are crucial for an effective artillery force. Meanwhile, in the maritime domain, recent events in the Red Sea have shown how naval artillery is gaining a prominent role as a cost-effective solution to defence from drone and swarming threats.

💥🙌 Raytheon has flight-tested an upgraded AMRAAM-Extended Range variant from a National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System. The Norwegian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces supported the variant’s maiden flight test, demonstrating its safe firing from the NASAMS launcher. It features the AIM-120 C-8’s guidance section, Nammo AS’ more robust 10-inch rocket motor, and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace’s 10-inch Control Actuator System, called the Norwegian Propulsion Stack. The Royal Air Force (RAF) is set to establish a satellite tracking station named Darc in Cawdor Barracks, Pembrokeshire, Wales. This initiative aims to address the threats posed by China and Russia in space, protecting the UK's communication and navigation networks. Defence Secretary John Healey highlighted the significance of the new radar program in enhancing awareness of deep space and safeguarding space assets. The station is a multi-national project stemming from the Aukus defence pact involving the UK, US, and Australia, and will help maintain operations at the barracks beyond its planned closure in 2028. Undoubtedly. Not just defence, but any data based decision making process and monitoring, gets efficient with geospatial data. Add to it the R&D that can optimize early warning systems for all kinds of weather events. Critical for India to indigenously develop this capacity. For the use cases that are very contextual to us. 🇮🇳
