Banks have once again entered into a cycle of uncertainty and are experiencing significant tightening in capital availability - forcing borrowers to find additional sources of liquidity to support their businesses. Banks will eventually acclimate to new regulatory constraints and capital requirements but, in the meantime, private markets, including largely unregulated direct lenders, hedge funds, business development companies, family offices, private equity firms, and SBIC funds, are stepping in to provide operating companies with the liquidity they need during uncertain times. GlobalCapital’s Ayse Kelce spoke to Brooke Major-Reid, chief capital officer at Affirm, about the ABS market and how the company responsibly extends access to credit by underwriting every transaction. Speaking to GlobalCapital ahead of Information Management Network (IMN) and Fixed Income Investor Network (FIIN)'s #ABSEast, Major-Reid, said: “Fixed income investors are really focused on our ability to manage risk and underwrite, so that they know they're protected. The fact that we underwrite every transaction, the fact that our duration is fairly short and the fact that we have a diversity of product offerings that can sustain the level of growth that we saw last fiscal year really speaks to how we can tier risk and price risk well in this environment.” #securitization
