Ensuring #socialinclusion through a #JustTransition in #LatinAmerica and the #Caribbean is the title and theme of a TUAC side-meeting at the OECD - OCDE Latin American & Caribbean Ministerial Meeting on Social Inclusion on 21 October in Bogotá, Colombia. Although Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries generate a relatively small share of global greenhouse gas emissions compared, they contribute strongly to carbon sequestration through their extensive biodiversity and forests, and achieving a ‘just transition’ is high on the agenda of LAC countries. Coming together at the meeting will be Ministers, trade unions, and Government and OECD officials, NGO and business representatives. Speakers include trade unions leaders from Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica and Peru as well as the Trade Unions' Confederation of the Americas, Stefano Scarpetta, the Minister of Labour of Colombia, and Molly McCoy. According to the UN, over 40% of the world’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) now comes from developing countries, and more than half of global growth in recent years has been driven by these nations working together. Pakistan has secured the 128th position in the 2023 Sustainable Development Report, with a score of 58.97 on the SDG Index. When compared to its regional counterparts including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, Pakistan holds the 7th position. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They provide a framework for countries, organizations, and individuals to work together towards a more sustainable and equitable future.
