👭 Happy International Day for Women in Diplomacy! 💬 What tips do you have for women working in diplomacy? As a relative newbie to this world, I don't feel quite ready to offer advice. That said, I attended a meeting with a retired senior official last week, who shared many of her own tips and tricks. Here are my main takeaways. 🔴 Seek out a sponsor. Mentors are great, but they are people you talk to. Sponsors are there to talk about you. ⚪ Connections are key. Do not underestimate the value of authentic relationships. They make a job in diplomacy more enjoyable, and will serve you well in the future. 🔵 Our best lessons come from failures. It's never nice to make mistakes, but they are inevitable. Learning how to learn from failure is a key skill to success.

“This is the context in which Canada is today releasing Foundations for Peace, its third national action plan on the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda. Building on the positive progress of recent years, while recognizing the growing needs in the current geopolitical context, this 6-year strategy reflects Canada’s clear-eyed understanding of the positive impacts of women’s full and meaningful participation in building global peace and security. A cornerstone of Canada’s feminist foreign policy, this comprehensive action plan is the blueprint for our country’s leadership on the WPS agenda. It also demonstrates Canada’s commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." https://lnkd.in/edwzBnTz

"Peace processes are more successful and last longer when feminist perspectives are included." Our colleagues Lilian Reichert & Amelie Overmann have published an article in the blog 'Megatrends Afrika' by Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy: "Bringing Female Mediators to the Table: Putting African Women in the Spotlight in Peace Processes". Find out why women are underrepresented in high-level peace processes in #Africa and why the new German Africa policy guidelines should prioritise cooperation with regional and national networks to strengthen women's #mediation capacities and strive for the inclusion of women in high-level peace negotiations. ➡️ https://loom.ly/lZL4_KQ As an integral part of civilian conflict prevention and management, peace mediation/mediation support is an important aspect of ZIF’s work: we are currently implementing a range of mediation support activities through the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany funded project "Strengthening of Mediation and Dialogue Capacities". The project aims at deepening the knowledge of the instrument of #peacemediation and promoting its effective application, supporting strategic exchange and targeted knowledge transfer between relevant actors of conflict prevention as well as providing tailored support for the effective development of existing or future mediation and dialogue processes. #FFP #FeministForeignPolicy

Pacific Women Mediators Network: While we welcome the announcement by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders of a high-level mission to New Caledonia, we believe that a long-lasting resolution to the ongoing political situation requires: • Multi-mediation as an approach that shows promise, though issues still to address include accountability to the WPS and women’s rights agenda by all actors • Recognition and reaffirmation that women mediators networks connect local women to the highest levels of decision-making – and vice versa - providing reality checks, as well as innovative insights and new approaches to diplomacy • Robust and widespread data and analysis on the impact of women’s participation and contributions to peace processes. This includes sustained resourcing for ongoing documentation of evidence and narratives of women mediators and peacebuilders. Additionally, there is an urgent need for core, flexible and long-term financial support to strengthen women-led peacebuilding and sustainable peace priorities #redesignthetable
