Resident Representative @ UNDP Haiti | International Affairs, SDGs, Complex Field Settings, Impact Finance, Emerging and Frontier Economies
PROMOTING AN INCLUSIVE LEGAL FRAMEWORK FOR POLITICAL PARTIES IN HAITI 🇭🇹 UNDP, in partnership with BINUH and the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, had the privilege of supporting and participating in the recent dialogues on the legal framework for political parties. Minister of Justice and Public Security Carlos Hercule and María Isabel Salvador, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti, were present at these discussions. This inclusive process brought together not only representatives of political parties but also those from civil society, demonstrating the importance of a collective and participatory approach. This consultation is a crucial step toward establishing a more transparent and equitable political environment, where the rules are clear and where everyone, including citizens, can play an active role in strengthening democracy. The UNDP, along with its partners, remains committed to continuing support for these efforts to establish a solid and participatory political framework, essential for peace and sustainable development in Haiti. #PoliticalReform #PartnershipForDevelopment #Haiti #UNDP #BINUH #Justice #Governance #CitizenParticipation

In today’s Daily Monitor newspaper, I wrote about Uganda’s journey towards Transitional Justice. As the nation makes progress into the achievements of transitional justice, its narrative emerges as a compelling tale of progress and aspirations. Uganda faces the challenge of fully actualizing the ideals of transitional justice such as the policy, the task of enacting a transitional justice law, balancing the requirements of peace, justice, and reconciliation. It envisions a future where transitional justice becomes a cornerstone of its societal standards. With reassurance from the Chair of the Justice Sector Development Partners’ Group in Uganda- the Austrian Embassy Development Cooperation, as well as its partners, and the Government of Uganda, our aspirations for TJ are not far from reality. Today, for World Humanitarian Day, we share this video calling leaders and those in power to pay attention to international humanitarian law. With 280 aid workers killed in 33 countries last year, 2023 marked the deadliest year on record for the global humanitarian community. This outrageously high number represents a 137 per cent increase compared to 2022, when 118 aid workers were killed. 2024 may be on track for an even deadlier outcome. As of 7 August, 172 aid workers have been killed, according to the provisional count from the Aid Worker Security Database.

This #WorldHumanitarianDay I reflect on all the crises happening in the world today, so many driven by human action and protracted as a result of inaction by global leaders around the world. Where is the accountability? Humanitarian law is violated across the board and each day we see individuals who hold power act with total impunity. We must continue to speak out and build public support to pressure warring parties and world leaders to better ensure the protection of civilians, including humanitarians, caught in conflict zones. #ActForHumanity.

Yesterday, we celebrated the courageous individuals who take action to uplift and support others in their times of need. 🦸♀️🦸♂️ On #WorldHumanitarianDay, we honor their unwavering dedication, resilience, and compassion. These everyday heroes step up to bring hope and relief to those in crisis, embodying the true spirit of humanity. Yet, we shouldn't stop because it's not August 19th anymore. 🩵 Why It Matters Humanitarian workers are the lifeline for millions of people caught in crises. Their safety ensures that essential aid reaches those in need. Protecting them means protecting our shared humanity and upholding the principles of compassion and dignity. 🌎 This Year’s Theme - “#ActForHumanity” This year, we stand together with United Nations OCHA to raise awareness of a critical issue: the ongoing threats faced by civilians and aid workers in conflict zones. Despite international laws meant to protect them, too many are being killed, injured, attacked, and abducted. This is unacceptable. It’s time to demand accountability. Let’s urge those in power to #ActForHumanity and take real steps to protect those who risk everything to help others. ✨How You Can Get Involved: 📢 Spread the Word, even AFTER August 19th Share this message and educate others about the urgent need for accountability in conflict zones. 🙏 Support Organizations Donate to or volunteer with groups that provide critical aid and advocate for the safety of humanitarians and civilians. 🎙️ Raise Awareness Use your platform to educate others about the importance of humanitarian work and the difference it makes in the lives of vulnerable communities, urging those in power to #ActForHumanity by demanding stronger protections for civilians and aid workers. Join us in celebrating the heroes who make a difference every day.
