The number of children forcibly displaced from their homes doubled in the last decade. At the end of 2023, 47 million children lived in forced displacement. Despite the growing numbers, solutions have been out of reach for far too many displaced children. 😥 As displacement becomes increasingly protracted, children often end up spending their formative years in limbo, missing out on crucial opportunities that will be difficult or impossible to catch up on later in life, with immense costs for individuals and societies. Too many children and youth on the move grow up deprived of an education, learning opportunities and the long-term benefits they afford. 📚 From the onset of a crisis, children need access to essential support and services like healthcare, education, social protection and protection that are crucial to their safety and wellbeing. They need to be able to live in an environment that fosters their healthy growth and development. They all deserve a fair chance in life – to not only to survive, but also to thrive! ❤️ Providing solutions for refugee and displaced children requires all hands on deck but unlocks a triple win for refugee children, host community children and host governments. One example is PROSPECTS - a multi-year program, funded by the Netherlands since 2019, uniting the International Labour Organization, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, UNICEF, and the The World Bank to address forced displacement in Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Sudan, and Uganda. It aims to shift from a humanitarian to a development approach by involving development and humanitarian actors, governments, the private sector, and displaced persons and host communities as partners in creating solutions. 💡 Learn more about PROSPECTS: https://lnkd.in/gYwNZ4vb Solutions.pdf Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations

Do people with disabilities actually exist? 🤔 1.3 billion people in the world experience significant disability that deeply affects their daily life. From finding a job, to be able to move around, or do something as simple as looking for something in Google, this people can see their daily lives deeply affected. However, are they actually disabled or is society the one making them “disabled”? I have the opportunity to see the work that NGOs like Connecting Cultures Fundación ONCE / Inserta do, and I have followed closely the amazing work of numerous activists and politicians, like Haley Moss, Esq., Jannatul Ferdous Ivy, or Stelios Kympouropoulos. This people are not disabled, society makes them disabled by not creating the right opportunities, the right buildings, the right education system, the right transportation, the right technological systems…We are the ones excluding them and not allowing them to tap into their true potential. We are the ones seeing their limitations, instead of their numerous strenghts that can shape the world and bring countless innovations. They are not people with disabilities, they are people with functional diversity, as my dear friend Carlota Corzo Álvarez would say. Bravo Voluntarios Naciones Unidas for launching these calls to hire young people with “disabilities”.

Passionate SRH & HIV Advocate | Championing Adolescent & Youth Engagement and Programming | AYP Forum Leader | AU-CIEFFA Alumni | Psychology & Sociology Graduate
As the year begins and the job hunt continues, I am reminded of how diverse of a background I have 😂😂 My friends can sometimes be confused as to what it is exactly that I do, so today I'm going to have a short post about the experiences of job hunting when you have diverse backgrounds ✨ Having a background in Psychology and Sociology can be very confusing for a lot of people, the moment you say you studied psychology, their immediate thought is counseling 😂😂😂 That coupled with over 4 years of experience in supporting development, program planning, and research in the HIV and SRH health space, my path has been diverse, to say the least. 🔍 Exploring Different Avenues: My academic background has led me to roles such as a Clerk’s Assistant at the Parliament of Botswana, an Administration Officer at Lion Tutoring International, and a valuable member of the DREAMS Mentor team at Stepping Stones International. Each role brought unique experiences and opportunities for growth. 🤝 Building Strategic Partnerships: From establishing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to advocating for awareness on issues affecting young people, particularly in the realm of HIV and SRH, my roles have demanded a dynamic set of skills. Collaboration with organizations like UNICEF, BOFWA, Sentebale, SAT Botswana and USAID has been both challenging and rewarding. They have also brought to my circle a diverse group of individuals who only want to see me win 🙏🥹 🚀 Embracing Diversity: My journey has taught me the importance of cultural sensitivity and adaptability. Whether I am working with individuals from all parts of the world, co-hosting "The Catch" radio show on Rb2 with my colleagues or engaging community leaders in strategic ways, connecting with diverse audiences has been at the core of my work. 🌐 From Social Welfare to Research: Transitioning from a Social Welfare Officer at Jwaneng Town Council to a Research Assistant, my experiences have evolved. Collecting data, preparing analyses, and engaging community leaders have been integral parts of my commitment to making a difference, all the while putting data at the forefront of advocacy. 🌈 The Takeaway: To those navigating diverse career paths, remember that your unique journey is your strength. Embrace the challenges, learn from every experience, and let your diverse background be a beacon guiding you to new horizons. 🚀 We have not come this far just to end this far. Our journey is only beginning 🔰 #Retloofitlha #Advocacy #CareerJourney #DiversityInWork #NewOpportunities #JobHuntChronicles
