This is what it looks like to amplify HBCUs, Black excellence, and impactful organizations in influential spaces. In June, our President and CEO, Dr. Michael Lomax, met with Mike Bloomberg and joined a powerful panel, "Our Legacy: An Exploration of Black Memory and Futurism," to celebrate Juneteenth. Dr. Lomax’s message about the mission and impact of UNCF and HBCUs is needed in spaces like this with media professionals, as we aim to continue telling the narrative of HBCUs. #Bloomberg #UNCF #FBF #HBCUs

The theme for Black History Month 2024 is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build. Did you know that during World War 1, Black women formed the Black Cross Nurses to fill a gap in health care? This Black History Month, we salute the resilience and dedication of Black Canadians who and are shaping our medical landscape. However, Black History Month is also a time for reflection. Black Canadians continue to face health barriers and inequities in the health care system. Alberta's PCNs are committed to providing a safe space for everyone to receive compassionate and inclusive health care, regardless of colour, gender, orientation, or background. Your well-being is our priority, and we work with health care professionals who strive to create an environment where everyone feels heard, valued, and cared for. #BHM2024

Juneteenth is a day to celebrate Black freedom, resilience, belonging, and hope, as it marks the day that ended the enslavement of Black people throughout the United States. Today, we can see how the inequities experienced by the Black community in the U.S. have been shaped by a long and systemic history of racial injustice and the extraction of labor from Black people. Despite our country’s painful legacy of racism, Black citizens have persisted and built thriving, vibrant communities. But there is still work to do—by all. In order to build a more just and equitable society, we must directly address these ongoing impacts through the systems, structures, and policies that have perpetuated such inequitable conditions and outcomes. As we celebrate and honor Juneteenth, let it also remind us that a new legacy is possible—and we all have a role to play in achieving it.

GHSA is proud to celebrate Black History Month, which is an opportunity to reflect on our history and recognize the outstanding accomplishments of Black people throughout the years. Unfortunately, historical and systemic biases have created an uneven playing field for Black Americans on the road. GHSA continues to promote ways to reduce these roadway safety disparities and provide financial support for projects that advance safety and mobility in communities of color.
