Last week, while driving with my son who had just arrived home from college, we noticed smoke coming from a residential area. We later learned that a home had been severely damaged by a fire and the residents had been displaced. This incident serves as a crucial reminder that emergencies, like fires, don't take a break during the holidays. It's during these moments that we truly appreciate the tireless dedication of our first responders. Despite the festivities and relaxation, they continue to serve our communities without fail. We are fortunate to have such committed professionals who prioritize our safety and well-being. As we embrace the joy and warmth of the holiday season, it’s important to prioritize the safety of those we love and our communities. Simple precautions like checking smoke detectors, being mindful of holiday decorations, and having an emergency plan can have a significant impact. By staying alert and prepared, we can all create a safer environment where everyone can fully enjoy the festive spirit—especially our first responders.

The National Fire Protection Association says that a number of fires started by candles peaks in December. That’s no surprise to us, so here’s some things you can do to make sure you and your loved ones sleep soundly: - Keep candles away from anything flammable and away from pets and children. - Light your candles early so that they’re not left unattended overnight. - Santa can’t get down a chimney when the fire is burning, so leave it off if stockings are hung nearby! - Prefer the smell of a real tree? Make sure it’s fresh and keep it watered. - If you’ve opted for the fake tree, make sure it’s fire-resistant. Be sure to come back for more tips to keep you and your family safe this holiday.
