Join the United Medical team on Saturday, April 27th to support the Brandywine Valley SPCA and help make a difference in the lives of 18,000+ homeless animals they care for each year. Our team goal is to raise $5,000 for BVSPCA. In order to meet that goal, we need everyone’s participation!!! Please use the link below and share the United Medical fundraising page on your personal social media sites often. The more you share our page, the more awareness you will bring to the BVSCPA. They work hard each and every day to save our four-legged friends, care for them medically when needed and facilitate finding them their “furever” homes. Bring your family, friends, and even your very own furry pals! This is family-friendly event. There will be a list of different activities and registrations. We’re out & about today, speaking with Roadchef colleagues up and down the UK about the importance of learning CPR. There are more than 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests each year in the UK, and they can happen anywhere, at any time. Shockingly, the survival rate is less than 1 in 10 – but early CPR and defibrillation can more than double the chances of survival. We’re asking Roadchef colleagues to vote for BHF to be their next charity partner! In partnership, we will help save lives today, by training Roadchef colleagues in CPR and turning service stations into lifesaving hubs. And together, we’ll help save lives tomorrow by funding the next groundbreaking scientific breakthroughs, helping to keep families together for longer. Roadchef, your vote can help save lives.

I’ve witnessed hunger. I’ve helped children sneak bags of food home in their backpacks for the weekend because it was a possibility they would go days without being fed. I’ve worried with other teachers about children going hungry during the weekends and on school breaks. I’ve watched children cry because they didn’t want to go home knowing they didn’t know when they would eat next. Children should never have to worry about food shortage and I believe it is our responsibility to do everything in our power to help. Though many of us may not realize the grave disparities that exist in our own communities, people face hunger in every county and congressional district in Indiana and beyond. They could be our neighbors, kids in our children's classes – the possibilities go on. In Indiana, 950,220 people are facing hunger - and of them 285,070 are children. 1 in 7 people in Indiana faces hunger 1 in 5 children in Bartholomew County faces hunger 42% of children in Bartholomew County qualify for free or reduced lunch… 50% of Flat-Rock Hawcreek quality 52% of Jackson County qualify 66% of Jennings County qualify “As pandemic programs ended and prices for household expenses (including food) rose, food insecurity levels have also risen,” according to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap 2024 report. “…Food insecurity is a symptom of historical and structural oppression, not individual weakness. It does not exist in a vacuum: people who face challenges accessing enough food also face challenges affording adequate housing, healthcare, transportation and other basic needs.” #hungeractionmonth

As a continuation to my post from Monday where I shared about my involvement as a Board member for the School Garden Support Organization, I wanted to expand on my “why”. And why my purpose and passions are centered on supporting equitable learning, school gardens, sustainability, and representation. Today, the majority, ~70% of agricultural workers are foreign born migrants. They are the backbone of our food supply chain, yet often are not given basic human rights or access to the systems/programs we all take for granted. Often, they are the center of vitriolic language and unfair policies; Our farm workers do not receive the respect they deserve. I would like to see dignity and pride in farm work restored. I would like to see agriculture in all forms seen as a meaningful career path. An industry that is valued as significant and has high importance; And that we support through our education system. How can we honor our migrant workers, and the legacies of Caesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta? I think it starts by supporting organizations that teach youth the importance of gardens, farming, sustainability, and communities. It is then we can truly “Honor the hands that harvest your crops.” - Dolores Huerta #purpose #passion #advocacy #nationalfarmworkersawareness #sustainability #community #leadership https://lnkd.in/gccx4yyy
🌱 It's National Farm Worker Awareness Week! This week we honor the farm workers who are the backbone of our food supply and celebrate their invaluable contributions to our communities. 🍇 Regardless of the multitude of challenges farm workers face, such as climate change, immigration, lack of worker protections and pesticides, farm workers remain resilient and continue to work tirelessly to ensure that there’s food on our tables. 🔦 Stay tuned this week as we shine a spotlight on the challenges and issues impacting these essential workers and learn how you can help the workers who put food on our tables. 🤲🏽 This week, please consider making a donation to the UFW Foundation. Your donation goes towards programs and advocacy for farm workers, their communities and families. To donate, go to https://lnkd.in/gtzc7Bfm
