Did you read the Bringing Affordable Housing Home Report, published earlier this week? We will be sharing each of the seven recommendations over the next week to help highlight these important concepts related to the essential role the non-profit sector MUST play in order to get our community out of this housing crisis. Recommendation 1: Land and Assets Surplus land and assets exist. It's critical they be made available to non-profit and co-op housing providers that are committed to growing affordable and supportive housing options across Ontario and are motivated not by profit. 🏠 Non-profit housing providers are the unsung heroes of our communities, but they face mounting challenges and ever-dwindling support. As they strive to meet the growing demand for affordable housing, they encounter numerous obstacles along the way. 🔍 However, there's hope on the horizon! The Centre's FREE self-evaluation Organizational Compass tool was designed specifically by and for the sector. This tool empowers organizations to assess their operations, identify areas for improvement and potential blind-spots, and streamline processes to better serve their communities and save time and precious funds. ✨ By leveraging this tool, non-profits can optimize their resources, enhance efficiency, and ultimately make a more significant impact on the lives of those in need of affordable housing. 🤝 The Centre believes that in order to fulfill its mandate and effectively address the housing crisis, the community sector must be proactive and bold. For us, that means giving the sector the means to succeed: https://lnkd.in/g58iGcgZ #AffordableHousing #NonProfit #CommunityImpact #HousingCrisis

Our seniors are in desperate need of affordable housing- low income apartment rentals, supportive living, but especially #assistedliving here in BC! (And more funded long term care but that’s for another day)…. With healthcare home health staffing challenges, assisted living is needed to keep and support our senior’s independence as long as possible in a communal setting- where they have on-site assistance, social engagement & keeping them supported until they actually need #longtermcare! Proactively minimizing hospital stays vs them being alone at home having crisis after crisis!! This fund is a great start but we need more $$ plus new RFPs for actual Assisted Living!! We need a proactive approach to seniors care vs reactive!! 🙏💞 BC Care Providers Association ; BC Seniors Living Association ;
Applications to the Community Housing Fund (CHF) are now open to non-profit organizations, housing co-operatives, municipalities, First Nations and Indigenous-led societies. The RFP will remain open until mid-November 2023. Part of the Homes for People action plan, the fund will build more than 20,000 affordable rental homes by 2031-32. This $3.3-billion investment will support the development of new affordable rental homes for middle and low-income families, independent seniors and individuals. Housing Association vs Council Housing, what is the difference? Typically, the difference between council housing and housing association is that council housing is owned by the local authority and is usually meant for those in dire need. Housing Associations on the other hand, refer to private not-for-profit companies which own houses and rent them out to tenants who receive monetary help. Has receive state funding and usually provide housing for those on low income or who need extra support. Being non-profit, all profits made by a Housing Association goes back into their homes and services. https://buff.ly/3qDY3j8 #HousingAssocaitions #CouncilHousing #GCHA #SocailHousing #SupportedHousing
