Over the past 50 + years the movement has become more and more significant and quite frankly, critical. This movement is like no other. It’s about courage, fortitude, perseverance, and compassion. It’s not a job it’s a way of life. It’s about advocating for all. It’s about being a solution for the ills of the world. It’s about lifting up while strengthening America’s landscape. With just a little federal funding, every dime is stretched and generating 6 times over. The person wins, the employee wins, the local economy wins, the state wins, and more significantly, the nation wins. 🩺🦷 In a recent poll of 2,000 Americans, 64% of respondents only go to a physician or dentist when something feels “extremely wrong,” 53% said it is difficult to access health care, and 35% felt more information and education about the importance of screenings and routine care would be beneficial. In the face of widespread underinvestment, how did Indiana manage to pass a 1,500% public health spending increase in 2023? Nir Menachemi of Indiana University and the Regenstrief Institute and coauthors describe how the Indiana state legislature successfully appropriated $225 million for public health funding in 2023 and what insights Indiana's approach may hold for other states. Millions of Californians who rely on Medi-Cal for health coverage are at risk of losing coverage during the post-COVID-19 redeterminations process. Already, 700,000 have been disenrolled, many due to procedural issues (not necessarily because they're ineligible), which can result in disruptions to care. California Health Care Foundation spoke with Christopher Gomez, an outreach and enrollment manager with Northeast Valley Health Corporation, on strategies to help smooth the Medi-Cal renewals process in LA County. There is a definite link between voting and our health & access to healthcare services. "The American Public Health Association states that voting and health are linked, both directly through the institution of policies through ballot initiative and the election of officials who routinely incorporate health into their campaigns, and indirectly as civic participation connects persons to their community and allows them agency in decision making (4). Further, there is a positive association between civic participation and better health outcomes, even when controlling for other factors (6)."
