Today is #SocialMobilityDay! ⚖
Since 2015, Ablaze have been working with business volunteers to tackle the inequality of opportunities available for young people, unlocking their potential and breaking down barriers to social mobility.
A recent social mobility report by the The Sutton Trust shows a substantial majority of the public think children from richer families enjoy better opportunities in schools (62%), universities (62%), and jobs (54%) rising further in jobs like accountancy, law or medicine (61%).
Ablaze work hard to tackle this inequality across the West of England, working with local businesses to develop key skills in primary school through our volunteer ‘reading & number partners' programmes and offering career mentoring in in both primary and secondary schools as well as employability support for young people not in education, training or employment. Our programmes offer young people the opportunity to connect with volunteers from the world of work and raise aspirations about their future.
Talent is evident all over the UK and the West of England, but unfortunately opportunity is not.
Use today as a reminder to reflect on how your organisation can be more accessible for young people from less advantaged backgrounds and think about how you can support your staff to get involved in raising the aspirations of the work force of the future through offering and utilising corporate volunteering days as part of your social value and ESG strategies.
Get in touch if you would like to find out more about how Ablaze can help your organisation through our corporate volunteering opportunities, that make a significant impact on local young people.
