Urban Grid is officially participating in Plastic-Free July! Plastic-Free July is a global movement that encourages individuals and communities to reduce their plastic consumption and waste throughout July, with the goal of creating long-term habits that minimize plastic use year-round. As we embark on Plastic-Free July, it’s crucial to reflect on the profound impact of single-use plastics on our environment. Each year, billions of tons of plastic waste pollute our oceans, harm wildlife, and threaten ecosystems worldwide. At Urban Grid, we recognize the urgent need for change and are committed to taking meaningful steps toward sustainability. Our Challenge to Employees: Throughout July, we are challenging our employees to reduce their plastic footprint. By making simple switches to reusable alternatives and conscientiously avoiding single-use plastics, we will collectively make a difference. Incentivizing Sustainability: We are incentivizing our employees with a #BCorp gift card lottery. It is not just about reducing plastic waste; it is about supporting businesses that share our commitment to a cleaner, healthier planet. We can lead by example and inspire others to join the movement toward a plastic-free future. Let us make this Plastic-Free July count, together, we will turn small actions into big impact. #PlasticFreeJuly #Sustainability #EnvironmentalAwareness #ReduceReuseRecycle

How much plastic do you use – and throw out – in an average day, week, or month? Be honest. This month is Plastic Free July, a global movement that (as taken from the www.plasticfreejuly.org website) ‘helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans and beautiful communities’. Everywhere we look, there is plastic…the bags we collect our shopping in, the food our shops sell our food in…it’s there at every turn! And we go along with it for one main reason: convenience. But convenience is not going to save our planet. By participating in Plastic-Free July, we can significantly reduce our plastic consumption and make a positive impact. We're not just helping to protect our oceans and wildlife, but we're also showing big corporations and governments that we want a cleaner, greener future. So, let's join forces this July, inspire others to do the same, and make a difference. Together, we can make this plastic-free movement bigger and better every year. It's time to make some changes – however small - and show Mother Nature some serious TLC. #recycle #noplastic #saynotoplastic #plasticfree #plasticfreejuly #saveourplanet #eco #environmentallyfriendly

Our team has made a pledge to refuse single-use plastics at work for Plastic Free July this year. Like so many others, we hate single-use plastics. They take forever to break down in landfill, are made of fossil fuels, and bits of them have even made their way into our food and bodies 🤢. But plastic can be so hard to avoid - especially if you need something specific or are in a rush. So even though we're pretty waste-conscious, there's always room for improvement. Plastic Free July is a great chance to really focus on the plastic that is coming into our lives, and think about adjustments we can make to avoid it. For us this year, that means making sure every meal, snack and beverage we consume at work comes to us plastic-free. We'll be remembering our drink bottles and keep-cups, refusing plastic forks, and asking for our sushi on the plate we brought down from the office kitchen (and then hoping it doesn't blow off in the Wellington wind on our way back!) Hopefully over the course of the month we'll pick up some new habits, and move a bit closer to a plastic-free lifestyle. Will you be taking the Plastic Free July pledge this year? Do you have any tips for helping us avoid single-use plastic? We'd love to hear them 👇🏼 #PlasticFreeJuly #PlasticFreeJulyAotearoa #PFJ2024

This week marks the beginning of The Big Plastic Count, which runs from 11th to 17th March. It's that time of year when we dive deep into our daily routines to uncover the truth behind our plastic consumption. Throughout the week, you'll keep track of all the plastic you throw away, categorising each piece to fill out a Big Plastic Count form. Once the week wraps up, you'll scan your results to receive a personalised plastic footprint. This report reveals not just the quantity but also the destination of your plastic waste. Trust me, I've been participating for the last few years, and the results are shocking each time! Here's a worrying statistic from the Big Plastic Count website: "Nearly 2 billion pieces of plastic packaging are being thrown away each week in the UK, and just 12% is recycled." Participating in this initiative has changed how I view and handle plastic daily. It's not just about reducing waste. It's about being part of a larger movement towards sustainability and environmental responsibility. Let's turn the tide on plastic waste together! https://lnkd.in/dAGTqNHh Greenpeace x Everyday Plastic #TheBigPlasticCount #Sustainability #PlasticFree #EnvironmentalAwareness

🌎 Today is World Environment Day—a day when everyone started thinking about climate change and pollution! This day serves as a reminder to rethink our habits and lifestyles, aiming to truly celebrate Environment Day, not just on social media. With raising issue of climate change and plastic pollution it's right to take right action. From plastic toys to household items, plastic is pervasive. Alarmingly, microplastics are now found in our food and even in fetus. By adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle with a focus on sustainability, we can make the future brighter and greener. Here are a few small changes that can lead to significant impact: ➡ Keep children away from plastic products. ➡ Ban plastic water bottles, lunch boxes, and pencil cases in schools. ➡ Enforce a ban on each type of plastic bags in the market. ➡ Use eco-friendly products for household items. ➡ Require builders to plant trees on 5-10% of the land of their project area. ➡ Allow commercial and industrial buildings to get permits only if they install solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems. ➡ Issue licenses to companies selling packaged food and beauty products only if they recycle as much or more plastic than they use. Taking care of these small steps, along with planting trees, can lead to significant positive changes. These are just my thoughts, and I hope they inspire action rather than provoke someone in wrong way. Let’s share and act on these ideas to make a real difference! 🍀 #WorldEnvironmentDay #SustainableFuture #EcoFriendly #PlasticPollution #ClimateAction
