Enabling the maritime energy transition … Enabling the safe and compliant adoption of nuclear power in maritime. Being part of the 7th UK-Japan Nuclear Industry Forum was a pleasure and a privileged. UK Companies and Japan Companies gathered yesterday at this event, hosted by the British Embassy at Tokyo; celebrating the strong link between both countries nuclear journeys over decades, the critical collaboration that persists in supporting decommissioning and Newbuilding of “new nuclear” and expanding to support the maritime decarbonisation challenge. A magnificent encounter of the like-minded who are working to build up an industry that will support more affordable cost of energy for consumers and the ease of meeting decarbonisation targets. Nuclear green energy is now actively being discussed between Lloyd's Register and the maritime industry, working together to “get nuclear in the water”, again! IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi has called on the World Bank to financially support the global expansion of nuclear power to achieve sustainable development and meet climate goals. In a recent meeting with the World Bank Group Executive Board, Grossi highlighted the critical role of nuclear energy in providing clean, reliable energy and urged MDBs to reconsider their financing policies to include support for new nuclear projects. “Triple Nuclear Energy” COP28 Declaration Marks New International Consensus ⚛ Over 20 countries have endorsed a goal to triple nuclear power capacity by 2050 as part of global efforts to fight climate change. The declaration marks the first time that Governments have joined together at the UN’s leading climate conference to endorse nuclear power. The countries represent nearly one-third of the world economy by Purchasing Power Parity. Overall, countries accounting for more than 75% of world’s economy now have new nuclear plans. NIA CEO Tom Greatrex welcomed the declaration, saying it "marks a new international consensus that we have to build out nuclear power at scale and at pace to hit net zero." Fission or Fusion? Do you believe in the greenwash of fission, have you not heard of the coming of fusion, do you not know or think about fusion and its coming? The same about the young reporter who did not know that there was an option in nuclear, that would produce more jobs, create a new industry, provide education, new exports, new value add industry in new technology and can work well with renewables all over the world, not like dumb fission and its only 39 rich developed countries think about fission as the next fossil fuel issue. The people that agree to fission and not fusion development in the world are even dumber than Australian politicians Dutton and Ted O'Brien, the Dumber and Dümmer of Australian Energy development and politics.

Waves of nuclear retirements will heighten urgency around backfilling generation with high-capacity factor clean energy. As the article makes clear, the innovation around advanced reactor design is largely not occurring in the same countries as deployment...will US start-ups have to deploy overseas? From Bloomberg: "Just one additional reactor is on the way in the US: Vogtle Unit 4, which is due to come online by early 2024. Still, headway is being made elsewhere around the world, with a further 56 reactors in the works. BNEF estimates a net 25 gigawatts of nuclear capacity will be added from this year to the end of the decade – roughly equivalent to the size of South Korea’s current fleet.
