Nielsen at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London. It is always interesting to see how other middle and small powers in our region structure their militaries ⬇️ I came across this diagram in a really interesting Lowy Institute article about China's development of the Ream Naval Base in Cambodia. The paper 'analyses the factors leading Cambodia to seek closer defence relations with China, and specifically China’s assistance to modernise Ream Naval Base, along with the access rights that may entail'. I'll add the link in the comments. Australia's model of highly trained personnel in very small numbers is very different to the large scale land forces many countries in the Indo Pacific littoral field. Our technological and skill advantage has long been claimed as an offset to mass. That offset appears to be steadily eroding with the proliferation of precision and rapid adoption of the small, the smart and the many approach to warfare. Today, military leaders from 11 nations met for the Arctic Security Forces Roundtable to discuss regional cooperation and stability in the Arctic. The senior military officials discussed a wide range of issues impacting security in the Arctic with particular emphasis on the collective ways to amplify and accelerate NATO's efforts in the High North.
