Elemental Wright - Meet Pentimento Pentimento is based on a drawing made by Vernon D. Swaback, one of Wright’s apprentices. It is a systematic floral pattern that expresses the inherent geometry in nature. Different weaves and a special slub yarn are used in specific areas of the floral pattern to create tactility and depth, while still retaining the delicate, hand-drawn quality of the original work. In May 2023, the Heritage Crafts Association sounded the alarm on the endangered status of stained glass window crafting, igniting a response from cultural advocates. The urgency of the situation was underscored by a BBC One feature on December 24th, 2023, showcasing a pioneering apprenticeship scheme. This initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between Swansea College of Art UWTSD, the British Society of Master Glass Painters (BSMGP), The Worshipful Company of Glaziers and Painters of Glass and key industry figures, culminating in the creation of a government-funded Stained Glass Craftsperson Apprenticeship with final assessment by Icon - The Institute of Conservation. While the Apprenticeship represents a significant stride in safeguarding the craft's legacy, attracting suitable candidates for the programme is imperative. However, the broader landscape of arts education faces challenges due to funding cuts, resulting in a dearth of resources and limited classroom time dedicated to creative subjects. To address this, proactive measures are essential to inspire young individuals about the potential of a career in stained glass. Against this backdrop, initiatives such as the Reflections of The Lord Mayor (#LMReflects) Stained Glass Roundel Design Competition https://lnkd.in/er_StHhA - has organically developed into a modest yet meaningful source of opportunity for #stainedglass artists and young enthusiasts alike since its inception in 2017. It continues to draw stained glass artists and introduce the craft to younger generations, initially involving primary school students and Junior Sea Cadets in 2018. The competition's growth to encompass young people from the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) | Official in 2019 and St John Ambulance Badgers in 2023, and the recent introduction of an #ArtsAwardExplore initiative in #stainedglassart with MSSC (Marine Society & Sea Cadets) in January 2024 underscores a dedicated effort to nurture a passion for #stainedglass artistry among youth. The engagement extends beyond just participation; past victors - Julia Gonyou (2018) and Siobhan Rimmer (2020) - have actively offered countless young people a tactile and engaging experience with #stainedglass, fostering dialogue as shown here, and might potentially igniting future careers in this traditional art form. As we navigate this pivotal moment, it is crucial for all stakeholders, be it artists, patrons, educators, or enthusiasts, to contemplate their role in upholding the legacy of stained glass craftsmanship to ensure its luminosity continues illuminating our cultural heritage. On 12-14 March, 36 vocational teachers from three Nordic countries participated in the Vocational School Summit 2024. The event is an industry initiative by Glasurit and was held at the Nordic Refinish Competence Center outside Gothenburg. The purpose of the Nordic Vocational School Summit is to create conditions for knowledge interchange between vocational teachers internationally through cross-border cooperation and knowledge exchange, thereby increasing the interest in education in the car painting and refinishing industry. - The aim of Glasurit’s Vocational School Summit initiative is to encourage more people to train as spray painters and paint technicians. We need to jointly evaluate what is required to attract more students and secure the future supply of skills. A key factor is the dedicated and knowledgeable vocational teachers in the schools and their work. - We are therefore particularly pleased and proud that so many of the Nordic vocational teachers chose to participate in the first Nordic Vocational School Summit, says Michael Wiborg, Nordic Marketing and Sustainability Manager. #Glasurit #Vocational #School #Summit

Have your sons and / or daughters learnt driving by observing you or someone else to drive? Do mothers and the schools use simulated learning to teach social skills to children? Children are often given simplified versions of real household tasks, like setting the table, folding laundry, or pretending to cook with toy kitchen sets. These activities are designed to mimic real-life skills that children will need as they grow. Even our ancestors used simulated learning environment. In many ancient cultures, young boys were taught to hunt through mock hunts before engaging in real ones. Even Blacksmiths, carpenters, and other craftsmen have apprentices who learn by observing and then performing simulated versions of tasks under the guidance of a master. These simulations allow apprentices to make mistakes, refine their techniques, and build confidence before taking on actual projects. Colleges conduct mock interviews and GD sessions to enhance the employability skills of their students. Airlines relies on full-flight simulators to train pilots on handling real-life flying situations and emergencies, making sure every flight is as safe as possible. Hotel industry employs scenario-based simulations to train staff in guest interactions, improving their customer service and problem-solving skills. These examples show that simulated learning has always been a part of human culture, long before the advent of modern technology. Whether through play, practice, or observation, our ancestors and mothers used it as an effective way to pass down knowledge and prepare the next generation for real-life challenges. I started with Brebner Print in 1995 as a machinist/folder operator, eventually taking on an apprenticeship in Print Finishing.   2️⃣ What are some of the major highlights of your career to date? In my 28 years at Brebner Print I have been fortunate to be part of such a hardworking and loyal team with a great culture, highlights include winning the National Print Finisher Apprenticeship title in 2000, year on year gold medal success at the Pride in Print awards, successfully implementing the stamp business from Southern Colour Print into Brebner Print and building strong relationships within the wider Blue Star team, all of the challenges and rewards make my journey an enjoyable experience.   3️⃣ What have been the biggest learnings/learning experiences? Without a doubt, navigating the previous 4 years with COVID and cyclone Gabriella has been the most challenging time of my career to date, it has been a privilege to lead our team through the associated challenges and I continue to be amazed at the resilience and fortitude shown by our team.   4️⃣ What excites you about the future for NZ businesses and Blue Star? Hi everyone, good afternoon from me2u. I'll really love to share this with you fam. It never didn't occur to me, ever since I did my POP late last year September, approximately about 10 months ago, that finding cadetship would be this difficult and discouraging. Personally, I have applied to so many company's emails, I have also made few contacts in a bid to just help myself but... no one seems to work out. No response, no feedback, no replies, etc. infact the highest encouraging feedback I managed to get was that the company doesn't employ from my region except the UK etc. I must confessed, I had a little bit of relief and hope, when I got that email from that company. Today, I woke up thanking God for life and everything and decided to ponder on so many things. Guess what..... I asked myself this question, why is it this difficult and discouragingly tiring for someone to get cadetship placement after passing out of marine academy? Even till now that I'm typing this, I still couldn't find a befitting answer to my own question. So I brought it up because problem shared, is half solved. Please can I really get an answer? Please I really need help. Please help a young brother get cadetship 🙏🙏. I'm an engine Cadet. All mandatory certificates and other documents relevant to this position are all intact.

Age 17: Became a glazing apprentice at my cousins small business 'coz all of my high school mates did. Age 19: Realised glazing had ceiling and wanted more, so I started studying business at night school. Age 20: Quit glazing to apply for special entry to Uni (didn't have the grades for normal entry). Age 22: 2 years into my degree, transferred to RMIT in Melbourne after a painful breakup to challenge myself. Age 25: Landed my dream job. Head of marketing for public finance company with my first direct report, earning $100K a year. Age 27: MELTDOWN! Redundant from dream job, relationship ended. Deep inner emptiness. Age 29: Started Alchemy Breathwork Grew a client base on +1,200 people, did over half a mil, and built a team of 4. Age 32: Massive misalignment with my core values, lost passion, stopped enjoying helping people heal trauma - MELTDOWN round 2! Age 33: Present time. Discovered what I LOVE doing, am very good at, and people desperately want... and it's a high value service so I can charge a lot. Launched ICON, Stand Out brand development for legacy-fueled people. My point is... We’re always evolving. And those of us who 'wake up' to ourselves, face our issues, and actively choose to live the most incredible life possible will rise and fall on the journey. That's OK. The more difficult the challenges, the more incredible highlight reel we get to look back on when our time is up. You either get incredible success or an incredible story. Sometimes it's both, either way, they're both a win. May your vision be greater than your perceived personal limitations.
