We advocate for flexible funding at the United Nations – here is why. Earmarked funding — restricted by donors to specific themes or projects — affects the performance of international organisations. With flexible funding organisations can spend and allocate budgets in the best way possible. With flexible funding, our teams are able to deliver better results. Take a look at the analysis conducted by Bernhard Reinsberg and Christian Siauwijaya in the Global Policy Journal at Durham University #SustainableFinancing

Local community groups and SMEs in the Midlands to receive grant funding of nearly €3.8 million under EU JTF programme Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan, today has announced that 15 sustainability-focused projects in the Midlands will receive grants under the EU Just Transition Fund (EU JTF) programme, co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union. The projects, put forward by voluntary and not-for-profit organisations, as well as micro and small to medium sized enterprises, have been awarded grant funding of between €50,000 and €300,000 to invest in ideas from the community that create employment and diversify the local economy of the Midlands region. The grants will enable projects to develop initiatives such as innovation and community hubs, green energy projects and heritage initiatives. Just over half way! I have spent a few late nights this weekend personally writing to 381 elected members from 37 councils (I still have 31 councils to go) asking them for their support in addressing the critical issue of inequitable funding for many Councils. The cumulative effect of this ongoing underfunding is considerable. In fact, 51 of the 68 South Australian councils were underfunded last year alone. Twenty five years of ongoing underfunding in Mid Murray is just too much (more than $80million). Our communities are resilient, but this ongoing pattern of underfunding must be addressed. I’m not sure I’m going to get time to finish the email list before tomorrow morning so if you’re in Local Government, LGA SA has organised an online Round Table tomorrow to discuss financial sustainability within local government. This free webinar is open to council staff and elected members, and I strongly encourage you to participate. Registrations to this workshop are essential, check your email from this morning for LGA latest news to find the link to register. This is an important opportunity to explore financial sustainability within our sector.

This article is an important read about inequity in funding for civil society organizations of the "global south" We can and MUST do better.
How many hours (days? weeks?) have you spent responding to calls for proposals from Northern donors, only to be turned down? The #TooSouthernToBeFunded report lifts the veil on funding from #OECD DAC members, detailing the formal and informal ways in which Global South organizations are prevented from ever qualifying. In this blog, the GFCF's Eshban Kwesiga comments: "Thinking back at the countless hours I spent writing proposals, what stings me now is not that those proposals were not successful. It is the façade that I stood a chance." #ShiftThePower https://lnkd.in/e4KmQdk5

📊 Did you know that only 13% of U.S. #foundations’ global grant dollars go directly to organizations based in the country where programs are implemented? (Council on Foundations) Our analysis suggests that collaborative funds working in the Global South can help funders connect to leaders and organizations closest to the work. In fact, of a subset of nearly 40 collaborative funds we analyzed, the wide majority reported at least 3 out of every 4 of their grantees are led by an individual who is representative of the communities they serve. 📄 This new report shares how a range of collaborative funds are driving outsized local impact across issues in the Global South while staying rooted in equity https://lnkd.in/e_hagh4H
