There is one major risk factor when hiring a new BIM contractor that, if present, will put brakes on the whole project — from the design phase to the job site work.🙅 BAD COMMUNICATION. Many teams know how to protect their projects from a lack of experience, neglecting agreed-upon schedules, low-quality service, etc. However, when it comes to communication, it's hard to know if a BIM provider is qualified until you are already working together. Always be mindful of the BIM contractor’s communication. Do not let the low price dictate your final decision as it may cost a lot more to push the project forward. What are your thoughts? Here are some common types of BIM (Building Information Modeling) model checks: 1. *Geometry Checks*: Verify that the model's geometry is accurate and complete, including checks for: - Missing or duplicate elements - Incorrect shapes or sizes - Interference or clashes between elements 2. *Data Quality Checks*: Ensure that the model's data is accurate and consistent, including checks for: - Missing or incorrect attribute data - Inconsistent formatting or naming conventions - Data inconsistencies between elements 3. *Model Validation Checks*: Verify that the model meets project requirements and standards, including checks for: - Compliance with building codes and regulations - Adherence to project-specific standards and guidelines - Consistency with design intent and specifications 4. *Interoperability Checks*: Ensure that the model can be shared and collaborated on across different software platforms and formats, including checks for: - Data exchange formats (e.g., IFC, Revit, AutoCAD) - Model compatibility with different software versions 5. *Clash Detection Checks*: Identify potential conflicts between elements, including checks for: - Hard clashes (physical intersections) - Soft clashes (clearance or proximity issues) 6. *Constructability Checks*: Verify that the model is constructible and meets site requirements, including checks for: - Buildability and fabricability - Site logistics and accessibility 7. *Energy Efficiency Checks*: Analyze the model's energy performance, including checks for: - Energy consumption and efficiency - Building envelope and system performance 8. *Accessibility Checks*: Verify that the model meets accessibility standards, including checks for: - ADA compliance - Clearances and circulation paths 9. *Sustainability Checks*: Evaluate the model's sustainability performance, including checks for: - Material selection and usage - Water efficiency and conservation 10. *Code Compliance Checks*: Verify that the model meets relevant building codes and regulations, including checks for: - Fire safety and egress - Structural integrity and loading These checks help ensure that BIM models are accurate, complete, and meet project requirements, reducing errors and improving overall project quality.
There are 3 main groups of checks that the BIM Coordinator does. Let's explain them today👇 → Geometry checks These are the obvious ones. We often refer to them as “clash detection”, “clash checks” and they are all about the geometry of the model → Data checks But you know that BIM model is a treasure trove of data, that needs to be quality-assured. In this group we check if properties and model attributes are defined If they are - then we check if they are correct. → Project requirements checks These are a combination of the two types mentioned above.
