Scouting for film locations is now so much easier Before launching Vennu, we were very eager to understand the potential users of community spaces, including the types of events and activities that motivated them. We commissioned independent national research from The Evolve Group and were not surprised to find that a key reason for use of a digital platform was the focus on convenience and choice. In particular, the concept of having multiple venues in one place was seen as compelling by many. What surprised us was the variety of ways people reported using community space, including film shoots or recordings (e.g., music videos, filming, product launches, and commercials), which represented 2.2% of all bookings. We anticipated a 59% uptake in this community. So, we incorporated this category of activity into our platform design! Now, things have become even easier for people scouting for film locations in two ways: 1. Through Vennu’s collaboration with Screen NSW, many of our listings are now on Reelscout. https://lnkd.in/gZExtnnz 2. The new Australian Screen Production Incentive supports screen production through generous tax incentives. https://lnkd.in/dEbUs9ey If you are looking for characterful locations for making music videos, filming, product launches, and commercials, we have the perfect space for you! So very important for the further development of film in the Western region
We have submitted a Pre-Budget Submission for 2025 to the Irish Government on behalf of the Western Audio Visual Forum. The Western AV Forum (WAVF) is a collective of key stakeholders for Film, Television, Games, and Animation in the West of Ireland chaired by Ardán. Through this forum, we hear firsthand from those working on the ground in the regions and gain considerable insight into the challenges they face. Our work with these initiatives, alongside others we operate, provide us with a top to bottom understanding of the industry in the region and inform the recommendations that follow. SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. REGIONAL UPLIFT: We are calling for the return of a fully functioning, consistent, and long-term Section 481 Regional Development Uplift to help address the lack of regular production in the regions and help maintain a key crew base through consistent work outside Dublin/Wicklow. 2. REGIONAL FUNDING: Until such time as there is a dedicated Regional Uplift, a dedicated regional fund in Ireland is vital to ensure the regions remain competitive and for the diversity and geographic spread of film production in Ireland. 3. CLUSTER DEVELOPMENT: By anchoring regional production with regionally based producers and implementing a comprehensive strategy that includes automatic funding support and dedicated regional funds, we can ensure the sustainability and growth of the regional audiovisual sector, supporting Ireland’s goal of balanced regional development, and delivering consistent employment across a variety of sectors. In the media and entertainment industry, the agreements for ad shoots, movie shoots, and reality shows, while similar in some aspects, have unique differences that professionals need to understand. One crucial element is the term of the agreement and how intellectual property (IP) rights are handled. 1. Term of the Agreement: Ad Shoots: Duration: Generally short-term, often a few days to a few weeks. Renewal: Rarely includes renewal terms, though there may be options for re-use of footage. Movie Shoots: Duration: Longer-term, spanning months to even years. Renewal: May include sequels or prequels, extending the term. Reality Shows: Duration: Can vary from a few months to years, depending on the show's season length and renewal. Renewal: Often includes clauses for multiple seasons or episodes, with options for renewal based on performance. 2. Intellectual Property Rights: Ad Shoots: Ownership: Typically, the advertising company retains all rights to the footage and creative content. Usage: Rights are often specific to the campaign's duration and may include limitations on geographical use. Movie Shoots: Ownership: Usually, the production house holds the IP rights, including distribution, merchandising, and adaptation rights. Usage: Comprehensive, covering various platforms (theatrical, digital, television, etc.). Reality Shows: Ownership: IP rights are generally held by the production company or network, including format rights and distribution. Usage: Extensive, often covering domestic and international distribution, syndication, and digital platforms. 3. Drafting an Agreement: When drafting an agreement for any of these shoots, consider the following: a. Clear Definition of Terms: Outline the duration of the project, renewal options, and specific deliverables. b. Detailed IP Clauses: Specify who holds the IP rights, the scope of usage, and any limitations or exclusivities. c. Compensation and Royalties: Clearly define payment structures, including upfront fees, royalties, and profit sharing if applicable. d. Confidentiality and Exclusivity: Ensure clauses for confidentiality, especially for ad shoots and reality shows, to protect proprietary content. e. Dispute Resolution: Include mechanisms for resolving disputes, such as arbitration or mediation, to avoid lengthy legal battles. Enjoyed managing and making sounds on a few commercials for Rebet, Inc.'s current launch campaign! 🏅 Super proud of the whole production team for putting this together so well. A special shoutout to Declan Kyle, the director and my team @ Sonic Psychos my assistant JF, and mastering engineer Jaden Caban for making this job run much smoother. These commercials will definitely be at the top of my portfolio! 😎 I spent a lot more time in the planning phase than I usually would for a project like this because I really wanted to home in the best soundscape opportunities based on the viewers' and potential users' preferences. I learned that this kind of design practice is really important, especially for content from companies that are launching. In the audio world, oftentimes like the VFX world, really good work can be overlooked, felt rather than observed... but bad design can leave a bad taste in the audience's mouth. You can enjoy the rest of the commercials and check out the innovative team at Rebet, Inc. on their socials! #sounddesigner #postaudio #sounddesign #sportsbetting #sonicbranding #creativity #design #branding #socialmedia #contentmarketing

Welcome to Day 16 of Compliance Calendar ® 30 Days "IPR Icons" Series! 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒖𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖! (But only if you use their trademark) Yes, Filmmakers in India can register their film title as a service mark under class 41. Class 41 provides for registration of a trademark under various entertainment services including film production, radio entertainment, Film studios, providing on-line music, entertainment etc. This means that if someone else tries to use the same or a confusingly similar title for their film or related services, the filmmaker who holds the registered service mark can take legal action to enforce their rights and prevent infringement. By registering their film title as a service mark, filmmakers can establish ownership of the title and protect their brand identity in the entertainment industry. This can be particularly important for building recognition and establishing a unique identity for their films, especially in a competitive market like the Indian film industry. 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 The film "Kahaani" (2012), directed by Sujoy Ghosh and starring Vidya Balan, was the first Indian film title to be registered as a trademark. The registration was obtained by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the production company behind the film. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 In addition to film titles, iconic characters from Indian films have also been trademarked for protection. For instance, the character "Chulbul Pandey" from the "Dabangg" film series, portrayed by Salman Khan, has been trademarked by the film's producers, Arbaaz Khan Productions. 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐦 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 With the rise of film franchises and cinematic universes in Bollywood, filmmakers are increasingly trademarking not just individual film titles but entire franchises to protect their intellectual property rights and maintain brand consistency across multiple installments. Want to know what are service marks? "Emotions are universal but your communication should have some character, an identity that adds detail to it, makes it authentic, physically relatable for a smaller section of society but emotionally relatable and believable for everyone. This should be shot in the local language with local kids, please stay away from making it neutral." This is what I always insist but this time they heard. The team Adcom and Meezan had no hesitation in taking that risk and voila! Here it is - something engaging, emotional and authentic. As I observed, people in the industry (when I say people I mean people who call the shots) avoid taking even small risks, play extremely safe - we mostly try to make things we have seen before. Anything new, especially without any reference point is considered a big risk and as result we see a series of monotonous ideas and execution. In this scenario, this concept and that freedom was music to my ears. As a director it was a big challenge and risk to cast all local talent without having any experience of facing a camera, but when the client, agency and production house are open for value additions, these bold calls are worth taking. The kids were shy initially, we were alien to them. After spending a day together we were friends and on the first day of shoot they were ready for that, and on the second day they were pros. When it comes to directing non-actors, I use my own devised technique where I become the object of interaction. I am really grateful to everyone attached to this project specially these beautiful and hardworking kids who gave it their best. This was a tough, yet the most interesting shoot of this season. All the running and climbing aside, this shoot proved to me that creating something new isn't easy at all, but the challenges are all worth it. #dasota #filmstudents #theatre FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW FILM & TELEVSION PROGRAMS TO ATTRACT PRODUCTION BUSINESS TO JACKSONVILLE JACKSONVILLE, Florida, May 31, 2024 — Earlier this week, the Jacksonville City Council passed legislation 2024-0286 Public Investment Policy (PIP), which includes three new programs that will be managed by the Jacksonville Film & Television Office, a division of the Office of Economic Development. “These programs will allow Jacksonville to compete with other Florida cities who have similar programs, which will ultimately have a significant economic impact in our area,” said Mayor Donna Deegan. “I have been a working member of SAG/AFTRA, doing TV and Film for more than 20 years,” said City Council Member Rahman Johnson. “I am excited to support this effort that will attract business to Jacksonville and keep the production community in Jacksonville working for years to come.” The programs are: The Jacksonville Film & Television Program, a performance-based rebate program structured to attract high wage unique film and television production opportunities to Jacksonville / Duval County that will hire area professionals and purchase goods and services from local businesses. The rebate program is based on the total qualified expenditures in Jacksonville / Duval County. The incentive will be distributed as a rebate after the production company provides proof of its local expenditures, hires, etc., through documentation that meets the criteria stated in the incentive agreement and/or incentive guidelines. There are two tiers: TIER 1: offers a 15% rebate for $400,000 minimum qualified expenditures in Duval County, capped at $149,999. TIER 2: offers a 20% rebate for $1,000,000 minimum qualified expenditures in Duval County, capped at $400,000. The program offers a 15% rebate for $75,000 minimum qualified expenditures in Duval County, capped at $150,000. The Jacksonville Fostering Filmmakers Grant Program, which seeks to foster independent filmmaking in Jacksonville by assisting local filmmakers with partial funding of locally produced motion pictures whose goal is wider distribution via theatrical, streaming services and/or film festivals. Applicants must provide proof of matching funds (minimum of $10,000) with the application along with other requirements, up to three $10,000 matching grants may be awarded through the Fostering Filmmakers Grant Program per fiscal year.
