⚡ Why SMEs Matter For the UK ⚡ This is a post on a topic very close to my heart...... According to UK Government figures, the number of private sector businesses in the UK, at the start of 2023, was 5.6 million. Now, here are some interesting facts, hidden in that overall statistic: ➡ 99.9% of those businesses were SMEs! ➡ SMEs employ over 61% of the UK working population ➡ SMEs generate over 50% of all UK sales turnover ➡ SMEs generate a very significant slice of UK exports (>25%) It has, therefore, never been more important for the UK to support its SMEs. 🆘 Without its SMEs, the UK would be bankrupt. 🔥 SMEs are vital to the UK economy; they drive growth, provide employment and open new markets. 🔥 SMEs generate huge economic and social value; they are a glue that holds the country together. 🔥 SMEs are key to increasing the UK's productivity, which has continued to fall in recent years. 🔥 SMEs are hothouses of innovation, talent, agility and responsive customer service. 🔥 SMEs support local economies and bring prosperity to areas outside of our main cities, which facilitates the more equal distribution of income and wealth. “A big business starts small.” — Richard Branson “Whenever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.” — Peter F. Why are so many of our SMEs not growing from small to medium size? 🤔 We know that some business owners start out with a passion to grow and succeed but failing to plan for three to five years (or longer) down the line can have an impact. Other times, entrepreneurs decide instead to manage their company to support their lifestyle or maintain a legacy to pass to their children. Few of them understand how to capitalise on growth opportunities by creating a valuable venture that continuously expands its services, creating much more substantial and sustainable growth in jobs and profits. With this in mind, our director Ryan Williams takes a deep dive into the topic in Business News Australia Pty Ltd and gives his top three factors holding SMEs back from growth. Member of Parliament for Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon, Shadow Minister for Small Business Recovery and Growth
According to the latest Business Barometer from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, nearly half of small businesses cite insufficient demand and a shortage of skilled labour as factors limiting their ability to grow. Canadians are tightening their budgets and skilled workers can't find a place to live. Common Sense Conservatives will #AxeTheTax, fix the budget, and build the homes to bring home lower prices and an environment where small businesses can innovate, grow, and thrive. #smallbusiness #cdnpoli #entrepreneurs REPORT: https://lnkd.in/eH6_fqqf
