We will also look at the important lessons we can learn from those who have served. One of the most important lessons we can learn from those who have served is the value of teamwork. In the military, teamwork is essential for success. Each individual must work together with others to accomplish a shared goal. The military has a way of breaking down barriers and bringing people together, regardless of their backgrounds or differences. This teamwork is essential not only in the military, but also in our daily lives. Whether we are at work or in our communities, working together with others can help us achieve greater success than working alone. Make this week great for you and your team.

Two military black-tie events in one week! After marrying into a Royal Air Force (RAF) family, I’m no stranger to the values, traditions, and quirks. With invites to the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards and a summer party at RAF Brize Norton, I've witnessed how ex-service people tackle the demands of establishing second careers. Leaving the military and joining the corporate world must be a challenging transition. Beyond just a career, the military provides its people with a way of life. But across the two events, I've seen how talent and transferable skills go far in carving out valuable careers in other industries. And ultimately, just how possible a second career is. Not only are these brilliant people making do elsewhere; they’re thriving! It shows purpose, success, and belonging are possible outside of the military family. So, it’s a lesson for us all to know that no matter what happens, your worth, strengths, skills, knowledge, behaviour and values can find a home elsewhere. #Reframe #ExServices #BusinessCoaching #SecondCareer

This week represents one of the most important dates in the lives of the Naval Academy Class of 2024, and for a few companies, it is the greatest marketing opportunity they've likely never heard of. Imagine dreaming of becoming Maverick your whole life...and then you get told your dream is about to become a reality. This week, hundreds of future Naval officers will be told they have been selected for Naval Aviation...the celebrations will become lifetime memories. Which is why I don't know of a better opportunity for companies like Aviation Gin to become the presumed choice of these men and women...forever! What could possibly be better than having a group of men and women in military uniforms and flight suits raising a glass of Aviation Gin as they toast to their futures in Naval Aviation!? For those who know, similar marketing opportunities that seem "too-good-to-be-true" exist...and are actually pretty common across a variety of industries. All you need to do is ask to find yours!

Rethinking Recognition: A New Perspective on Air Force Decorations In the U.S. Air Force, the awarding of decorations, guided by DAFI 36-2806, is a process steeped in tradition and significance. Leadership plays a crucial role, with unit commanders authorizing and supervisors nominating. Commonly awarded medals like ASAM, ASCOM, MSM, and others symbolize meritorious service in various scenarios - from deployments to retirements. Yet, there's an ongoing debate within our ranks. Often, commendable service is overlooked, tagged with the phrase "the member's service did not warrant a decoration." This reflects an older mindset in the Air Force, one that overlooks the absence of quotas in decoration awards. The result? Many deserving airmen may go unrecognized. What if we shifted this paradigm? Imagine a system where decoration quotas are linked with monetary incentives. While this idea might stir controversy, it also brings a unique perspective to the table. Could this encourage a culture where striving for excellence and recognition becomes more tangible? This approach raises important questions about motivation, merit, and the true meaning of honor in the military. Let's open a dialogue: How can we balance tradition with a modern understanding of recognition? Can we make the process of awarding decorations more inclusive and reflective of diverse achievements? Military culture, learnings and customs absolutely have a place in business. I recently published an internal H1 Military & Veterans Programs Report here at Cushman & Wakefield.
