What is one thing that every Viega sealing element has in common?? If you’ve taken out a sealing element from a new Viega fitting and noticed the shiny residue, that’s because all Viega sealing elements come coated in an H1 food grade lubricant that eases the insertion of the sealing element into the fitting. Don’t worry though, this isn’t harmful and doesn’t contain any toxic chemicals. 🙅♀️ #viega #viegapress #plumbing #presstechnology #viegasealingelements

You've heard of PFAS as "Forever Chemicals" and they've gained attention for the environmental damage they can cause. But, they also serve some good purposes. PFAS are important because they have been widely used in industry and manufacturing due to their unique chemical properties; properties that make them heat-resistant, able to repel water, and close to indestructible. PFAS compounds have been used in many applications such as non-stick cookware, stain repellent clothes, food contact materials, detergents, cleaning products, and fire-fighting foams. #Chemetrix #PFAS #ForeverChemicals #AnalyticalInstruments #Laboratory #ScientificResearch

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) include a wide range of chemicals used in many products and materials today. These VOCs are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids, and many are known to have potential adverse health effects for anyone exposed to long-term or elevated levels of these compounds. Common sources include paints, paint strippers/solvents, wood preservatives, aerosol sprays, cleaning supplies, disinfectants/pesticides, air fresheners, stored fuels and automotive products, hobby supplies, dry-cleaned clothing, building materials/furnishings, and glues/adhesives. EMSL’s Air Toxics Division provides VOCs and Odor Testing. To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/eZkDEQnz. The #EPA just announced a comprehensive ban on #asbestos, a carcinogen that kills tens of thousands of Americans every year but is still used in some chlorine bleach, brake pads, and other products. The final rule marks a major expansion of EPA regulation under a landmark 2016 law that overhauled regulations governing tens of thousands of toxic chemicals in everyday products, from household cleaners to clothing and furniture. The new rule would ban chrysotile asbestos, the only ongoing use of asbestos in the United States. The substance is found in products such as brake linings and gaskets and is used to manufacture chlorine bleach and sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda, including some that are used for water purification. The EPA rule will ban imports of asbestos for chlor-alkali as soon as the rule is published but will phase in prohibitions on chlor-alkali use over five or more years to provide what the agency called “a reasonable transition period.’' A ban on asbestos in oilfield brake blocks, aftermarket automotive brakes and linings, and other gaskets will take effect in six months. #safetyprofessional #safetyprofessionals #NASPsafety

We can agree on one thing: lead pipes should be replaced nationwide. But we cannot sit idly by while lies about PVC pipes are spewed. PVC pipes are lead-free and have been certified by the National Sanitation Foundation International for safe water delivery. Further, PVC has the lowest overall failure rate when compared to cast iron, ductile iron, concrete, steel, and asbestos cement pipes. PVC pipes are a proven solution for America’s water infrastructure, and their production and installation employs thousands of Americans across the country. To say that vinyl chloride monomer is present in PVC pipes is disingenuous and shows a lack of scientific knowledge. The fact is PVC pipe routinely receives a “Non-Detect” rating for vinyl chloride monomer and meets requirements set forth by the U.S. EPA and the rigorous NSF Standard 61. US producers of PVC are under some of the most stringent environmental regulations in the chemical industry, and our resulting PVC pipes make the grade and deliver safe drinking water.
"Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, pipes will undoubtedly be considered as a replacement for lead pipes in Chicago and elsewhere, and they come with their own serious concerns." Check out Judith Enck's op-ed in today's Chicago Tribune!

"PVC's Days Are Numbered". It might be a big number since we don't have an economical alternative in the supply chain just yet, but at least we're starting to take action to reduce the amounts of hazardous material and in some cases ban it altogether. Read the article linked below to learn more about the fight against polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

PFAS refers to per- and polyfluorinated substances. PFAS are compounds that are used to create fluoropolymer coatings with industrial applications like heat, oil, stain, grease, and water resistance. However there are some risk factors associated with PFAS, and considering they are used in some forms of packaging, it is important to be aware of the regulations surrounding them! Aqueous cleaners also have clear advantages over solvents because traditional chemical methods of cleaning are becoming more regulated and more expensive. #aqueouscleaning #partswashers https://lnkd.in/eEyYBMJQ
