Stanislaus County is taking a crucial step towards improving transportation experiences for all modes by preparing a land use and transportation plan for the South 9th Street Corridor. This corridor serves as the main link between downtown Modesto and Highway 99, and the county's goal is to enhance its interface between commercial, industrial, and residential land uses. The South 9th Street Corridor plan will help to support a variety of uses and infill development, ensuring that the corridor is accessible and functional for all. #transportation #infrastructure #landuseplanning

There is an increasing focus on the Pasig River rehabilitation. Executive Order 35 signed by PBBM on 25 July, 2023 moved the authority and responsibility of improving the quality of the river to the Department of Human Services and Urban Development (DHSUD). More VIC high-rises and density are the way to pay for rail expansion The Age reports that the Victorian government needs $34.5 billion to fund the expansion of the Suburban Rail Loop East and the Federal Government will only provide $2.2 billion. So, we’re likely to see more high-rise strata buildings approved to help fund it. Higher density development will be allowed the the 6 new stations: Box Hill, Burwood, Glen Waverley, Monash, Clayton and Cheltenham; increasing  populations in those areas by 100% to 285%. Last week, we attended a focus group meeting on transportation for Manheim Township’s upcoming comprehensive plan. During the meeting, Manheim Township gained input and insight from our connects2040 transportation plan, our Active Transportation Plan, and our staff. We talked about the concerns and opportunities we saw for creating more connections for the municipality. Take a look at the chart below from our meeting discussion – it tells one story of connections between places in the Metro Planning Area surrounding Lancaster City. We can use this information to ask: how can we better connect Manheim Township with the city? Or East Hempfield? Strategies such as creating complete streets improvements or making the Lancaster Train Station into a multi-modal transportation hub fit the bill, but they also take careful planning and collaboration. Good work Manheim Township in getting many partners such as PennDOT and the South Central Transit Authority together with these focus groups! Building sustainable infrastructure for current and future residents is crucial as communities expand and populations increase. In particular, the City of Chestermere expects its population to grow by 30,000 people in the next 20 years, which has necessitated modifications to the Rainbow Road infrastructure. These changes include expanding the roadway and increasing sanitation capacity. Currently, construction is underway to twin Rainbow Road, which will lead to a better network of roads and improved traffic flow for residents. Additionally, a new multi-use pathway will be built on the west side of Rainbow Road to connect the east and west sides, benefiting communities on the west side as they continue to grow and expand. This project is expected to be completed later this year. What do you know about Fishermans Bend? Located on the outskirts of Melbourne’s CBD, it’s a crucial part of the city’s development as Australia’s largest urban renewal precinct. This area has the potential to significantly contribute to Melbourne’s economic growth.  The Department of Transport and Planning has published a draft Development Contributions Plan (DCP) to support over 120 ‘essential infrastructure’ projects in Fishermans Bend, covering open spaces, streets, community hubs, and flood mitigation.  The Committee welcomes the draft DCP and the Open Space Uplift (OSU) incentive. Our submission to the consultation highlights that consideration of both ‘essential’ and ‘catalytic’ infrastructure is required, including integrated planning, public transport, an innovation ecosystem, and the protection of the Port of Melbourne’s operations.  These key considerations for the successful implementation of a Fishermans Bend initiative will shape a prosperous future for the precinct.  Read our Fishermans Bend submission here: https://lnkd.in/e94TW7Kp #melbourne #fishermansbend

Detroit Future City's Land Use & Sustainability department aims to promote equity and sustainability in Detroit neighborhoods. They work closely with community and civic leaders to provide training, technical assistance, and support for open space projects. The department is working with the Land and Water Works Coalition and providing consulting services to promote Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI). Their ‘Working with Lots’ program has helped implement over 50 open space projects in Detroit neighborhoods by providing grants and technical assistance to residents looking to transform vacant lots into productive landscapes.
