10,000 New Energy Apprentices announced! ⚡👷♀️ After 1 June this year, technicians (including heavy vehicle!) that learn and work on clean energy vehicles will have access to up to $10,000 in support. HVIA understands that apprentices who have met a certain level of exposure to working on net zero vehicles will be eligible. We'll continue to work with government on the finer details, but this is a great step towards our sector's transition to net zero. https://lnkd.in/dTWVDXNH

As the maritime sector embarks on its own industrial revolution, driven by the transformative power of artificial intelligence, there is an immense need to cultivate a skilled, adaptable workforce capable of navigating and advancing these changes. The integration of AI is reshaping nearly every aspect of maritime operations—from autonomous vessel navigation and predictive maintenance to optimized supply chain logistics. However, to fully harness these technologies, we need a strategic approach to workforce development that equips current and future maritime professionals with the necessary skills and adaptability to thrive in a tech-driven environment. This transition demands comprehensive training and experiential education initiatives to ensure that workers are not only proficient with advanced digital tools but also adept at leveraging AI to meet evolving industry standards and sustainability goals. Preparing this new workforce will play a crucial role in helping states achieve ambitious targets, from emission reductions and efficient energy use to economic growth in coastal and offshore industries. Building robust partnerships between educational institutions, the private sector, and policymakers will be essential to meet these goals, creating a workforce that can innovate responsibly and drive the maritime industry forward. PV Magazine with a summary of the final guidance on prevailing wage and apprenticeship under the IRA. Any surprises to the community? "The goal of the prevailing wage and registered apprenticeship (PWA) provisions in the IRA are to ensure that those working in the clean energy industry receive fair pay, and also to encourage apprenticeship programs that will build a skilled workforce. The clean energy projects that resulted from the IRA have created more than 270,000 jobs, according to the Treasury Department, which said studies show that more than 1.5 million additional jobs will be created over the next decade. Details of the final rules include: Requiring that determinations of prevailing wage rates be made by DOL, consistent with the Davis-Bacon Act; Incentivizing practices that will encourage contemporaneous compliance; Implementing strong recordkeeping requirements; Guaranteeing that taxpayers with projects covered by qualifying project labor agreements do not need to pay penalties; and Clarifying apprenticeship requirements such as clearly defining what constitutes as a request for qualified apprentices, what constitutes as a response, and when the good faith effort exception applies." Is college the only path to achievement? This recent Good Morning America piece on high school seniors deciding between college and trade schools sparked a great conversation (https://lnkd.in/ez3E-MBF). Automotive, electrical, plumbing, and welding are gaining popularity among young adults, which is understandable as college tuition climbs near $100,000 a year. But what if I told you there's expanding field with amazing career opportunities – clean energy, and specifically wind energy? Watching this piece, I was surprised to hear no mention of clean energy professions, despite the fact that wind technician is the fastest growing career category in the United States according to the BLS. For young people seeking a stable and rewarding career path, wind energy offers a compelling combination of factors: 🚀 Fast Growth: As wind power becomes an increasingly critical part of the energy mix, the demand for skilled wind energy technicians is sky high. 🛣️ Clear Progression Pathways: Wind energy careers offer well-defined paths for advancement, with opportunities to move into leadership, engineering, operations management, health and safety, education, and sales. 💸 Low Cost of Entry: Trade schools and certificate programs can provide the necessary skills and qualifications to enter the wind energy field at a significantly lower cost than a traditional four-year college degree. 💚Fulfilling Work: A career in wind energy allows you to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable future. I firmly believe in the importance of higher education, but there's numerous paths to achievement. While college remains a viable choice, the trades provide a distinct set of benefits.
