🏅🏥 TMH was the third hospital in the nation to successfully perform a LimFlow procedure outside of clinical research and trials and is the only hospital in the region offering this innovative, life-changing surgery. Did you know people in Leon and the surrounding counties have a greater risk of lower limb amputation due to diabetes than the Florida average? In response to this important need, TMH is now home to the first Critical Limb Ischemia Program in the Big Bend, offering advanced vascular surgery options for patients at risk of a lower limb amputation. As part of the program TMH is offering two new procedures that have the potential to greatly reduce the number of patients who must have an amputation due to diabetes and vascular disease – LimFlow and DETOUR. The LimFlow procedure allows doctors to connect an artery in the calf to a vein near the foot and restore blood flow to the feet. TMH first performed the procedure in November, successfully saving the patient's leg. DETOUR, a second new procedure at TMH, is a major advancement for patients with severe peripheral arterial disease, which causes significant blood vessel blockage and hardening of the arteries in the legs, dangerously restricting blood flow. With DETOUR, surgeons can avoid traditional open leg surgery by creating a bypass of the artery blockage without open incisions. Patients benefit from an immediate recovery and can go home the same day as the procedure, rather than recovering in the hospital for up to four days. A contact lens bandage designed to facilitate epithelium transfer for healing, Interesting project from Dr. Hannah Levis at University of Liverpool My question is: Can you shower while wearing this type of bandage contact lens if you have an epithelium defect? This is a common concern for patients with epithelium defects, especially those with Acanthamoeba Keratitis. While we seek assistance in healing the epithelium, wearing a contact lens may pose a risk due to the infection's origin. Retinal damage with lasers is dose dependent. This can be from a high power laser for an ultrashort duration or low power laser for a longer duration. The fovea has a higher sensitivity than peripheral retina. Darker pigmentation also enhances the absorption of the laser energy. Although this is a low power laser (0.4mW), it is shone for 60 seconds twice daily. The total irradiance is therefore relatively high and the damage seen here gives cause for concern. More studies are required.

How do we do marking for a teenage patient suffering from grade 3 Gynecomastia by Dr Arth Shah https://lnkd.in/dqk-8X2g When marking a young patient with grade 3 gynecomastia, it is critical to approach the treatment with care and sensitivity. The following are the general steps in marking for gynecomastia surgery: 1.) Examine the patient: Begin by assessing the patient's medical history, physical examination findings, and gynecomastia grade. Grade 3 gynecomastia is characterised by considerable breast tissue growth and extra skin. 2.) Patient positioning: Have the patient stand up straight with their arms at their sides. This will allow you to evaluate the chest's contour and symmetry. 3.) Identify the inframammary fold: The inframammary fold is the natural crease beneath the breast. Mark this fold on both sides with a sterile medical marker or pen. This phase is critical for evaluating proper incision placement and attaining symmetrical results. 4.) Make a note of the nipple-areola complex (NAC): Locate and indicate the centre of each nipple. Then, measure the distance between the sternal notch (the dip at the base of the neck) and each nipple to ensure they are equal bilaterally. This aids in repositioning the nipple-areola complex following surgery. 5.) Draw the surgical design: Connect the inframammary fold marks to form the incision lines. The specific design will be determined by the surgical technique utilised, which could be liposuction, glandular excision, or a mix of the two. 6.) Additional marks: If there is excess skin, more markings may be required to indicate the amount of skin to be excised as well as the new position of the NAC. 7.) Review and approval: Reassess the markings, ensuring symmetry and keeping the patient's desired objective in mind. Communicate with the patient and address any concerns or queries. It is critical to control their expectations and talk about potential restrictions and risks.
