Upgrading an Obsolete Woodward 721 Control System on an LNG Tanker with Goltens' IDC-2 Another success story of a recent project where Goltens successfully upgraded of obsolete Woodward 721 control system with IDC-2 for an LNG tanker Vessel ensuring efficient integration and minimal downtime. Challenge: The vessel's main engine faced a failure of its Woodward 721 control system, forcing speed control operation to backup mode (mechanical governor mode). As the 721 is obsolete and no longer available in the market place an alternative solution was required. Solution: Goltens' IDC-2 provided a straightforward, plug-and-play replacement for the Woodward 721, utilizing the latest Woodward FLEX 500 platform while preserving all original functionalities.
