This simple, but powerful message, captures the reason the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth founded Mount Saint Vincent in 1883. It's the reason that continues to inspire our work. This year's #World_Day_Against_Child_Labour focuses on the theme "Let's act on our commitments: End Child Labour!" It's a crucial reminder of the ongoing struggle to eradicate child labor worldwide. As we commemorate this milestone, I urge all my connections to join me in taking action to combat this pressing social issue. Here are two ways we can make a difference: A. Individual Actions: 1. Raise Awareness: Share articles, videos, and personal stories about child labor to spread awareness and spark conversations. 2. Support Organizations: Donate to reputable organizations working to combat child labor and support their initiatives. 3. Make Informed Choices: When shopping, choose products made with fair labor practices and avoid those that may contribute to child labor. B. Community Actions: 1. Organize Events: Host or participate in local events, such as charity runs, bake sales, or fundraisers, to raise funds for child labor initiatives. 2. 🚐 The Safety Care-a-Van made a big impact in its first year! 🌟 18 community events attended 🔒 1,299 pieces of safety equipment distributed to families 📝 548 safety surveys completed from 45 ZIP codes Your voices were heard! The top concerns from our Safety Survey: 1. Not enough exercise, poor eating habits, and bullying are the top unhealthy behaviors parents wish to change. 2. Access to healthcare, nutrition, and mental health are the biggest health issues for families. 3. Medication storage lockboxes and gun locks are the most needed safety equipment. 4. It’s been an exciting few days at The 5BORO Institute! We issued our latest policy report, Investing in Families and Our Future: A Policy Roadmap to Address NYC Child Care Needs Now. Our city needs accessible, high-quality child care to build a thriving economy and encourage young families to live and work in New York. And yet, the child care sector in our city is at a crisis point, with licensed child care seats available for fewer than half of NYC children and more than 80% of New Yorkers unable to afford care for even one child. That is why we were proud to release a clear and actionable roadmap with steps the city and state can and must take today to improve care. Our recommendations will help lay the foundation for a future with universal free or low-cost child care and bring immediate benefits to families and child care providers.
