Instrument Installation, Hand Over Procedure – Not what it should be? After carrying out extensive evaluation and ordering the correct configuration and software options, you await delivery of your GC/MS! You make sure the lab has the environmental and gas requirements, so you are good to go? However what tests, training program have been agreed with the supplier. In 99% of cases with a GC/MS a sensitivity test (Typically octofluoronapthalene, OFN) is performed and 1 hour of familiarisation training is carried out. However, what about your application and how you acquire, process and report data? The OFN test does not take into account the activity within the sample path and repeatability and tests are not performed, therefore how can you be sure the autosampler, injector, column(s) and detector are performing to specification. If you are unfamiliar with the technique, hardware, and software there is a lot to learn, which should be scheduled in bite sized training slots. In the past this has been impossible to achieve and very expensive. Why not consider a bespoke remote purchasing, support, and training package? QC REFRESH ‼️ QUALIFICATION OF EQUIPMENT: GC EQUIPMENT The standard ISO/IEC 17025 requires that a #laboratory shall have access to #equipment that is required for the correct performance of laboratory activities. In particular, #calibrationprogrammes shall be established, reviewed and adjusted, including intermediate checks to maintain confidence in the calibration status. The present document is the second Annex of the core document "Qualification of Equipment", and it should be used in combination with it when planning, performing and documenting the #GCequipment #qualificationprocess. The core document contains the general introduction and the Level I and Il of qualification, common to all type of instruments, and the present annex contains GC instrument-related recommendations on parameters to be checked and the corresponding typical #acceptancelimits, as well as practical examples on the methodology that can be used to carry out these checks. Level I|I (#Periodic and motivated instrument calibration/checks) and IV (#Inuseinstrumentchecks) qualifications must be carried out as an ISO 17025 requirement. The tests proposed in the Level Ill and IV of qualification are based on an overall approach, in which several parameters are checked at the same time in a combined #testprocedure, to obtain information on the overall #systemperformance (e.g. peak area precision, retention time precision, temperature programme reproducibility, etc). Nevertheless, it should be noted that it is also acceptable to check these parameters individually by using other well-defined procedures. Requirements and (if applicable) corresponding typical acceptance limits (given in bold) should be applied; however other appropriately justified approaches are acceptable. Exemplary procedures provided in this document have non-binding character. They can be helpful when carrying out the required qualification. Nevertheless, it is left to the professional judgement and background experience of each QC lab to decide on the most relevant procedures to be undertaken in order to provide evidence that their GC systems are working properly and are suitable for their intended use. If the qualification of equipment is done by the manufacturer or an external service provider, it is the responsibility of the OMCL to make sure that this is in line with the requirements set out in this guideline. ACE supported the installation and commissioning of Emergency Shutdown Devices (ESDs) across 50 regional Western Australian chlorination/chloramination sites for a major water/wastewater utility company, working as a subcontractor to the client’s technicians and engineers. ACE Engineers leveraged their decades of combined water utility control experience to program, document, and test a wide variety of both legacy and modern control system hardware in accordance with the client’s design/supplementary design guidelines and documentation. ACE’s systematic and procedural approach in tackling each site learned from the extensive experience in the sector, allowed for precise and surgical changes specific to each site’s requirements, thus eliminating operational risks that may arise from unintended functional changes. This ensured a smooth deployment of the new safety-critical devices with minimal to no impact to operations.
