Wageningen Campus Expedition Week 1! 🚶♂️ 💡 This week was the first of two weeks of the Wageningen Campus Expedition. For the 3rd year in a row, companies and organisations on our beautiful green Campus opened their doors to employees and co-workers. This first week was already filled with interesting and inspiring tours at Aeres University of Applied Sciences Wageningen, NIOO-KNAW, Unilever Foods Innovation Centre 'Hive', and on Thursday, Kadans Science Partner provided 3 tours at 14 companies in PlusUltra 1 & 2. During this day, participants were welcomed with 3 smoothie varieties from smoothiebar.nl, then at Green Dino BV the driving simulator was shown and at Berrico FoodCompany bv the focus was on the healthy and positive effect of cranberries on gut flora. At the beginning of the week, participants were invited to Unilever to test whether they are ‘Supertasters’ or not. On Tuesday, Aeres Hogeschool opened its doors, a green and sustainable school that trains teachers for secondary green education. On Wednesday, Froukje Rienks of NIOO-KNAW told a story about how the building and the surrounding spaces are used, reused and what kind of research is being done. 📚 Feedback from participants was very positive. Interest in each other's work is invaluable. The many questions that were asked were answered in great detail. Many participants signed up for up to 4-5 tours and enthusiastically take the opportunity to look at the companies next door. For several people, it is the first time they have taken part and positive responses can be heard: ‘How fun and great that this is being organised!’ and ‘Next year, I'll take part again and then I'll bring my colleagues along too!’ ‘What a beautiful building, you wouldn't notice that from the outside at all!’ 🗺 Next week from Monday to Thursday, KeyGene, AgroCares, Eurofins Agro & Horti NL, FrieslandCampina, Upfield and Wageningen University & Research will also receive around 300 guests all together. Looking forward to what we may see a learn there as well! #campusexpedition #campustour #wageningencampus

Fueling Sustainability and Efficiency in Business | Overcoming Hurdles in Sport and Business based on the same principles of success | B.A. Business Administration dual at Merck
2023 - it’s a wrap 🏁 The year kicked off with the final exam phase of my dual studies. 📝 For my subsequent bachelor’s thesis, I delved into the previously unknown and complex world of biodiversity. A few weeks later, together with Michael Drozd I participated in the ESMT Biodiversity Roundtable, and armed with the insights gained, I started writing my bachelor’s thesis. ✍🏼🌿 As depicted in the image, the successful completion of both my thesis and dual studies at DHBW Mannheim was appropriately celebrated.👨🏼🎓🍾 Since October, I’ve been tackling the challenges of sustainability at Merck Life Science in the SSBI team. ♻️🧪 Beyond these ‘hard facts’, certain events proved particularly enlightening on a personal level. The aforementioned Biodiversity Roundtable was a plunge into the deep end of networking at professional international events. 🗯️ A visit to the nursing home with Maria Schaad’s department revealed the diverse daily realities in the world and emphasized the importance of looking beyond one’s own perspective. 👵🏽 A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of sparking the curiosity of elementary school children about science during the Curiosity Labs. I was especially inspired by the children’s enthusiasm. 👦🏼👨🏽🏫 Cheers to past achievements, new beginnings, future challenges, and a more sustainable tomorrow. #2023 #biodiversity #sustainability #sparkcuriosity

Let’s get back with the #VET4FOOD series of posts! 📣 In this post we would like to introduce the concept of #CooperativeLearning: with this expression we refer to a learning-teaching method in which the significant variable is the cooperation between students, and in which a set of classroom techniques are used to allow work in small groups, based on learning activities which are assessed in relation to the achievements of the students. 📚 #CooperativeEducation aims at improving learning and socialisation processes through the mediation of the group, whose members must act feeling positively interdependent on each other, so that the success of one is the success of all. It is a teaching methodology based on the belief of the importance of interaction and cooperation in school as a means of human and social advancement. 🫂 Learn more here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eddk8kqg ESHOB (Escola Superior d'Hostaleria de Barcelona) | Diesis Network | Turismo Centro de Portugal | Wattajob! #VET4FOODproject #FoodSustainability #Erasmus+ #training #sustainablefoodsystems

Celebrating a Collaboration Towards Biodiversity and Corporate Growth 🚀🌍 After two intensive semesters with our Bioneers (student) project, which we worked on with the support of ZEISS Group under the sponsorship of Don Wu, we had the fantastic opportunity to present the results of our project work at the headquarters in Oberkochen. What does the BIONEERS do? Our mission is to connect the important issue of biodiversity with corporate growth. Our solution demonstrates that initiatives to strengthen biodiversity help the environment AND bring long-term financial benefits to companies – because we all know businesses operate through business cases. The employee is at the heart of our platform and no longer needs to wonder where to start. We encourage companies and their employees to support biodiversity projects and help reduce barriers, making the first step towards biodiversity promotion easier. The benefits for companies are enormous: increased employee productivity, job satisfaction, and better retention rates are just a few of the positive effects. Additionally, companies can positively differentiate themselves and strengthen their brand through their commitment to biodiversity. A huge thank you to #ZEISS for the fantastic atmosphere and the opportunity to learn regularly from various experts within the company. Thanks also to all the wonderful people at ZEISS with whom we enjoyed working over the past months. The collaboration has greatly enriched us. We especially thank our professors, Dr. Christian Greiner and Thomas Prof. Dr. Peisl, for their continuous support and guidance. Together, we bring the idea of biodiversity into companies and enable employees to participate actively. Presenting the Institute for Health and Environment — the coordinator of The Food Odyssey project! 🌿🍴🌍 Established in 2016 and nestled in the heart of #Slovenia's capital, #Ljubljana, the Institute for Health and Environment, aka IZO, is a #publicinterest organisation that brings together three key sectors: #publichealth, #environment, and #youth. Their mission is clear: to facilitate open and meaningful communication with a diverse range of #stakeholders in society. With a strong emphasis on #airquality and #climatechange, they actively work in the areas of health and the environment, striving to create a positive social impact. The main team members involved in this project are Tomaž Gorenc, Jasna Možina, Nuša Vezonik, and Tim Gregorčič. 🇸🇮 Their leadership has set us on the right path on our journey to co-create an #innovative and engaging approach to #learn (and #teach) about food systems sustainability. We will explore the interplay between agri-food systems and climate change, with #learning that's as engaging as it is #fun! As an ErasmusPlus project, our main target audience are vocational educational and training (#VET) #schools, focusing on both #teachers and #students. But we are confident that our approach and results will be appealing to a much broader audience! Curious to learn more? Don't miss our future posts! #TheFoodOdysseyProject #ErasmusPlus #InstituteForHealthAndEnvironment #Sustainability #ClimateChangeEducation #StorytellingInEducation #EducationalGames #FoodSystems #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalStewardship #Ljubljana #Slovenia

I have often felt uneasy about the carbon footprint from business trips, especially since I was doing everything I could to avoid flying for personal travel. I felt was ruining all my effort in a blink of an eye when an international meeting was organised... Finding eco-friendly alternatives for business trips isn't always easy or feasible, and many employees might be reluctant to make the effort, which is understandable. However, when some employees are willing to choose alternatives like train travel, which often requires courage and willpower, the first step for employers is to update travel policies to encourage or at the very least allow for these choices. When companies are talking about ESG, this should be a no-brainer. Because saving just one flight already makes a huge difference when you know that a Paris-Rome flight is already a fourth of your total annual carbon budget. So congrats Gabriel Taillandier and Matgenix for showing that this is possible 👏👏👏 Let's hope that this kind of business trips becomes much less unusual in the future!
🌍✈️🚞🚢 Congratulations Gabriel Taillandier! 🚢🚞✈️🌍 Embarking on a journey that not only leads to professional growth but also embodies our commitment to sustainability, Gabriel Taillandier, our PhD student, is making waves in eco-conscious travel. 🌊🚆 As part of the BLESSED Project, an industrial MSCA program, Gabriel splits his time between our dynamic team at Matgenix and academic pursuits at the University of Crete in the group of Prof. George Froudakis. This unique program fosters innovation by bridging the gap between industry and academia. 🎓💼 But it's not just his scientific endeavors that make Gabriel stand out. With an unwavering dedication to reducing his carbon footprint, Gabriel has chosen a path less traveled for his upcoming journey to Athens, Greece, for a network training event. 🌿🚞🛳️ Instead of opting for the conventional route by plane, Gabriel has crafted a sustainable itinerary (see the map), traversing through Brussels, Paris, Geneve, Milan, and Bari by train before boarding a boat to his final destination. A journey spanning 40 hours, emphasizing his commitment to environmental responsibility. 🚆🌍🛳️ At Matgenix, we're proud to be at the forefront of sustainable innovation. While we tackle a range of projects aimed at addressing diverse challenges, including sustainability and future generations, our focus remains on developing materials and solutions that have a positive impact on the environment. From pioneering research in sustainable materials to innovative solutions for energy production, storage, or CO2 capture, our work is driven by a commitment to creating a better world for future generations. And when it comes to travel, we prioritize eco-conscious options, such as train travel, to minimize our carbon footprint whenever possible. 🌱💡 Gabriel's journey serves as a reminder that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a more sustainable future. Join us in congratulating Gabriel for his inspiring commitment to eco-conscious travel, which reflects the values we promote at Matgenix. 🎉👏 #sustainability #sustainablefuture #ecology #sustainableitinerary #futuregenerations #carbonfootprintreduction #ecotravel #greeninitiatives #corporateresponsibility
