As someone who fancies themselves a bit of a US presidential history buff, I'm always on the lookout for more intriguing facts. So, here are five striking parallels that caught my attention: 📅 Election to Congress: Lincoln in 1846, Kennedy in 1946. A century apart, but both stepping into national politics in a year ending with a 6. 🏛️ Election as President: 1860 for Lincoln, 1960 for Kennedy. Exactly 100 years apart, each leading to transformative presidencies. 🤝 Successors Named Johnson: Both were succeeded by vice presidents named Johnson from the South - Andrew for Lincoln and Lyndon B. for Kennedy. 🔎 Assassins Known by Three Names: John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald, both remembered with three names, totaling fifteen letters each. 📖 Special Committees for Their Deaths: The aftermath of their assassinations led to the establishment of special committees to investigate - the Warren Commission for Kennedy and the Military Commission for Lincoln. Saturday Book Review: The Presidents Club by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy I’ve read this book twice—once in print and once on Audible—and loved it both times! 📚 The Presidents Club was published in 2012, so it only covers up to Obama’s first term. That’s okay though, because a lot of the traditions this book highlights have been tossed aside, and, in my opinion, we don’t see the same statesmanship among presidents today. The book explores how former presidents, regardless of party, set aside differences to tackle tough challenges. It covers stories like how Truman and Hoover joined forces to prevent starvation in post-WWII Europe, how Eisenhower helped Kennedy through the Cuban Missile Crisis, and how Jimmy Carter often didn’t follow the rules set by those who came before him. If you're interested in learning more about how presidential relationships worked behind the scenes and how they supported one another in the past, this is a great read. The book captures a time when presidents were not just politicians, but true statesmen. Highly recommend!

Teddy Roosevelt lived an extraordinary life, filled with many challenges (lost mother and first wife on the same day/year) and many triumphs (Ranch owner, NYC Police Commissioner, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Led the Rough Riders in Cuba in the Army, NY Governor, VP and President of the United States, Conservationist). He authored more than 40 books and opened many national parks across America. Most of all, he was known as a consistent man of integrity, always following his beliefs and promises. Two lessons for us all: 1. We will be best known in this life for our character. Develop and lead well in character. 2. Make the most of your time on Earth. If President Roosevelt can accomplish what he did, why can’t we accomplish more in what we are called to do in our own lives? Discipline is key to character building and time management. One second, one hour, and one day at a time. Side note: If you want a deep read on the life of T.R., I highly recommend the trilogy from Edmund Morris (Volume 2 pictures below)
