RIGHT IS RIGHT AND WRONG IS WRONG.
Ted McGuire
Integrity is a learned behavior. It’s not mere honesty. Frequently a little child blurts out vividly honest things in a completely innocent manner that can embarrass their parents. Integrity, on the other hand is a behavior that is applied with consistency. In fact, this is the paramount behavior which determines one’s character. Here are a couple of real world examples. When new people joined the bank to work with my father (as he put it), they heard his ink pen story. Since integrity is at a very high level of expectations for tellers at the bank who handles copious amounts of cash daily - he would ask “what’s your integrity worth? Is it $1,000, -$100 - $10 - $1? He said if you would sell your integrity to take home even the firm’s 50 cent pen your entire personal worth just got diminished to half a dollar. You just defined the value of your integrity. Another time I had a relative out of the blue tell me about an event in the 1960’s when he had gotten behind in his payments. My dad asked this relative to sit down at my dad’s desk. Dad simply said RIGHT IS RIGHT AND WRONG IS WRONG. Then dad got up and walked away. This relative immediately paid off his debt. This was the level of integrity he exuded.
On Thursday Dec. 7. The Oklahoma Bankers Association included and recognized Ted A McGuire into the Oklahoma Bankers Hall of Fame during its 2023 banquet. While I am so very proud of his public recognition as a testament to dad’s integrity, hard work, kindness, and genuine care and compassion for his customers, fellow bank employees, board directors, communities, and consultants, I selfishly feel I have received an even more valuable award- I have a great legacy to attempt to emulate- the ultimate gift of integrity exemplified and personified by my father - Ted McGuire. A mere thank you can’t express my gratitude. But thanks Pop.
