Talkin’ trash @ ecomaine ♻️ | Passionately promoting sustainable waste management as a means to a better future
Beautiful ☀️ morning to take #Sparky⚡️🚗 out for a spin. ecomaine is on the road today at the University of Maine at Augusta for a workshop presented by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and Product Stewardship Institute about the implications and impact of extended producer responsibility (#EPR) policies that shift the post-consumer stage of a product’s or packinging’s life cycle upstream toward the producer and away from municipalities. This approach has the chance to be a #gamechanger for recycling by greatly reducing the amount of solid waste that winds up in waste-to-energy (WTE) and landfill facilities, with provisions for incentives to producers and manufacturers to take into account environmental considerations when designing their products. ♻ 🔄 #extendedproducerresponsibility #recycling #recyclingindustry #productlifecyclemanagement #circulareconomy #wastemanagement #sustainabilityleadership #sparkyrunsontrash

The History & Future of US Recycling Neil Seldman, Dan Knapp, Mary Lou Van Deventer Tuesday, October 29th, Presentation: 11 am to 12:30 pm PST; Open Discussion, 12:30 to 1 pm PST (2 to 4 pm EST) Register by Clicking Here: https://lnkd.in/gHHX_K_c This is a Don’t-Miss Zero Waste Education EVENT! Panelists will focus on the history of the three movements — recycling, anti incineration, Zero Waste — which emerged in the 1960s, 1980s and 1990s, respectively — that inform today’s grassroots effort to stop incineration of waste and implement Zero Waste and realize the economic and financial, social, and environmental blessings of Zero Waste. First, you’ll learn about the financial incentives that support incineration and inefficient single stream recycling. Then, we will will define the policies, programs, and enterprises that can reverse investment patterns by diverting capital from wasting to recycling, composting and reuse — including sources of capital, guidelines for investment and organizing principles that can win the day for Zero Waste. Our team member, Lyn Tally, recently attended Ocean Plastics Leadership Network’s fall expedition. From September 10th-13th, they explored Maine and Quebec’s innovative waste management and recycling systems with a diverse group of industry, government, and environmental leaders. Here’s what they learned: 🔄 Innovative Solutions: Forward-thinking approaches like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and bottle return schemes are helping create smarter, more efficient waste systems in Maine and Quebec. ♻️ Rethinking Waste: Companies are exploring creative ways to reduce single-use plastics, design reusable containers, and make waste systems more effective. Ensuring food-grade recycled materials and cleaner composting streams remains a challenge. 🌐 Global Insights: Quebec’s comprehensive approach to waste management offers valuable lessons on efficiency, showing a different path compared to current practices elsewhere. Here at A New Earth Project, we're committed to advancing sustainable packaging solutions, and the learnings from this expedition continue to inform how we help brands transition away from single-use plastics. Stay tuned as we continue to share insights and innovations from the expedition to drive progress in waste reduction and recycling. #WasteInnovation #SustainableSolutions #CircularEconomy

2023, despite being a year of much confusion and new challenges in the waste compliance sector, did see major advances in the radical reform programme the UK is embarking upon. If reforms are to be achieved along their current timetables then 2024 will be a decisive year in transitioning towards greater producer responsibility. In my latest blog I explore just how much progress was made across 2023 for packaging, WEEE and batteries reforms, and how we might expect that progress to accelerate across 2024. #epr #packaging #circulareconomy #waste #packagingepr #weee #batteries

♻️ Celebrating Global Recycling Day! 🌱 Today, on Global Recycling Day, let's shine a spotlight on an innovative solution that aligns perfectly with the principles of sustainable waste management - Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae. At FreezeM, we're proud to champion #BSF as a powerful tool in the recycling arsenal, offering a sustainable and efficient option for waste conversion. Why BSF? 🪰 BSF larvae are nature's ultimate recyclers, capable of converting organic #waste into valuable nutrients in a remarkably efficient manner. This aligns perfectly with the waste management hierarchy, which prioritizes options that focus on converting waste into usable resources. By harnessing the power of BSF, we can significantly reduce the volume of waste destined for landfills while simultaneously producing high-quality organic matter. At FreezeM, we offer cutting-edge BSF breeding solutions designed to simplify the complex breeding process. Our innovative technology allows waste management companies to seamlessly integrate BSF treatment solutions into their operations, decoupling the breeding process from day-to-day operations. Whether you're a small-scale facility or a large waste management corporation, our solutions are scalable and adaptable to suit your needs. By embracing BSF technology, waste management companies can not only meet recycling targets but also contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future. Together, let's harness the power of BSF to create a world where waste is not just managed but transformed into valuable resources. Join us in celebrating Global Recycling Day and let's pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable tomorrow! 🌍♻️ #GlobalRecyclingDay #insectfarming #SustainableWasteManagement #RecycleWithFreezeM #organicwaste #circularity #circularsolutions
