Today, we would like to introduce the German Maritime Centre, as part of our social media campaign "Meet our members". Founded in 2017, the Deutsches Maritimes Zentrum is an independent institution based in Hamburg that supports the maritime sector. It focuses on innovative strength and the topics of the future to ensure that the industry continues to occupy a leading position in international competition. Its members are the German federal government as the main funder, five German states and the major maritime associations. The areas of work cover entire value chains in the fields of shipbuilding and marine technology, shipping, and ports and maritime logistics. The German Maritime Centre draws on the maritime sector’s innovative capacity and on topics of the future such as fossil-free, emissions-free propulsion systems, autonomous shipping, and recruiting young talent, so that the maritime industry can continue to maintain a leading position internationally.   Helena Rapp, European Initiatives and Funding Programmes: “The German Maritime Centre is committed to strengthening the maritime sector in all its facets from a cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary perspective. We are convinced that the future of the maritime sector and the challenges it faces, such as technological change, sustainability, climate change, demographic change and attracting young talent, can only be solved through the joint commitment of stakeholders at European level. In WaterborneTP we have found the perfect organisation to turn these ideas into reality at European level. By contributing to the content of the working groups, providing strategic foresight on research and technology, co-designing European funding programmes and interacting with relevant stakeholders, WaterborneTP is creating the conditions and the forum for a resilient, competitive, innovative, sustainable and carbon neutral European maritime industry. It is an honour to be part of this organisation that brings together business, academia and the public sector for a future-oriented maritime sector.”
