On 24 November, President Joko Widodo kicked off Indonesiaโs first #carbon storage project, the Ubadari carbon capture, utilization, and storage (#CCUS) project. The Ubadari CCUS kickoff followed the inauguration of bp's Tangguh Train III, completed last month for USD 4.8 billion, and has made Tangguh the largest gas-producing facility in Indonesia. Hereโs a summary of key details: ๐ Location: Bintuni, West Papua - as one of fifteen Indonesian CCS/CCUS projects in various stages of development, with a combined investment of USD 8 billion ๐ต Investment: bp is set to operate the project with an investment of USD 2.6 billion, per an energy ministry statement last September. This figure is yet to be confirmed by the company ๐ฑ Potential: The facility will potentially store up to 1.8 gigatons of carbon dioxide equivalent, equal to the yearly emissions of roughly 380 million passenger cars (per my rough estimation based on Spring Free EV data). Carbon injection to the plant is set to start in 2026 ๐ฒ Food for thought: The International Energy Agency (IEA) has reported "excessive expectations and reliance on CCUS," in a recent report on the role of oil and gas companies in the #netzero transition. Companies will need to cut their own emissions, diversify, and scale up other decarbonizing technologies for the sector to further accelerate the transition We await further developments

The Chairman of the Johor Sustainability Centre announced that Johor Menteri Besar Dato Onn Hafiz Ghazi will be leading a delegation on a working visit to Sarawak by the end of the month to explore partnership opportunities. The state government's strategy includes forming collaborations with both the private and public sectors to strengthen the renewable energy sector. Sarawak, which is developing hydrogen as a renewable energy source, presents an ideal partner for Johor in this endeavor. Close cooperation between the two state governments is essential for gaining a better understanding of hydrogen technology as a renewable energy source. Sarawak recently introduced an energy transition policy, SET-P, to promote renewable energy sources and technology for a clean and sustainable future. The collaboration with South Korea, which includes a grant for developing the Sarawak Hydrogen Roadmap, demonstrates a commitment to decarbonization and sustainability. This collaboration aims at producing hydrogen in Sarawak for export to South Korea, contributing to economic growth, job creation, and environmental stewardship. The Sarawak Hydrogen Roadmap will serve as a blueprint for harnessing the potential of hydrogen energy in the state, covering technological advancements, infrastructure development, and regulatory frameworks. By working together, both states can achieve economic growth while contributing to global sustainability goals. Investing in collaborations like these will not only add value to progress in key sectors but also spark an economic phenomenon aligned with current developments. #InvestJohor #MajuJohor #Johor #Investment #MajuJohor2030 #JSSEZ.

Industry experts have highlighted that a large part of Pengerang remains undeveloped, but this could soon change with its possible inclusion in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. Besides serving as a crucial hinterland for the expansion of oil and gas companies in Singapore, the vast land space in Pengerang will also see the potential revival of a renewable solar energy farm project. The proposed 450-megawatt Sultan Ibrahim Solar Photovoltaic Park has been envisioned as Southeast Asia's largest solar energy storage system and will help boost the renewable energy Malaysia could export to Singapore With Pengerang set to become a hub for renewable energy projects, this initiative aligns with global trends toward sustainable energy solutions and underscores the mutual commitment of Malaysia and Singapore towards a low-carbon future.ย To read more about it: https://lnkd.in/gMdzMnFU In line with regional sustainability goals, YTL PowerSeraya will continue to energise communities and power generations towards a greener, more resilient future.ย #YTLPowerSeraya #GenecoSG #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #Sustainability #RegionalCooperation #GreenFutureย
