One of the most pressing challenges facing European industry today is finding highly skilled individuals to tackle complex innovation problems.     One solution is our Open Innovation Challenges, which are not only attracting interest from prominent industry actors but are also fast becoming the ‘go-to’ for young professionals looking for real-life, hands-on experiences to increase their employability.     Through our network of 300 industry, RTOs, and academic partners, EIT RawMaterials is ideally positioned to connect with and offer young professionals the opportunity to work on the most complex challenges organisations face.     Consider Maria Victória Luz, a biotechnologist from the SINReM International Master's programme. She participated in our recent Atlantic Copper Resource Recovery Open Innovation Challenge, working on-site alongside seasoned professionals. This week, I had the distinct pleasure of engaging with the University of North Dakota's Association of Energy Engineers Student Chapter. During our session, I delved into the nuances of electrification across the Midwest, sharing insights and exploring innovative pathways forward. The energy and curiosity from the group were palpable. Fielding their insightful questions not only underscored the complexity of our journey towards electrification but also highlighted the pivotal role of emerging energy engineers in navigating this landscape. As we look to electrify our buildings and transportation fleet, the challenges are undeniable. Yet, it's the sharp minds and relentless inquiry of groups like the one at the University of North Dakota that reassure me: we are on the right track. Electrification is more than a technical challenge; it's a societal shift, requiring collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability. The students' enthusiasm and depth of questioning were not just refreshing; they were indicative of the capable hands in which we leave our future. To the brilliant future energy engineers at the University of North Dakota: your readiness to tackle these challenges head-on gives me great hope for our collective journey towards a more electrified, sustainable world. 𝐔𝐊𝐑𝐈 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐌𝐈 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐌 I went to PhenomeUK last fall where the focus was on technology to meet the challenges of 21st century agriculture. But took in a great presentation by Simon Breeden talking about the need to support the technicians that bring the technology to life and keep the data flowing. Defining ,valuing, and developing the career path of technicians is critical to building and extracting value from the next generation of phenotyping (or any other science or engineering endeavor) . At Hiphen we are committed to developing early career researchers, but it takes an ecosystem level program to really nurture a countries talent like this ambitious program aims to do.

I was delighted to be invited by The Faraday Institution to speak about my career journey to their PhD Cohort 3 and 4. It's such a privilege to meet with such talented and bright individuals who are working at the forefront of battery research. I shared my journey from Biochemistry undergrad to Commercial and Partnerships Lead for a Battery start-up, Anaphite. Not necessarily the most obvious career journey, but it's certainly been an enjoyable one so far! Here are some of the insights I've learned along the way: ❓ If you can work out your "why?" and make career decisions that align with your why then you'll get so much enjoyment from your work 👩🍳 Find ways to maximise your opportunities and learn new skills - you can seek opportunities outside of your formal education or current role to gain new experiences 👩🔬 experiment with your career - try out new things, work out what you like and what you don't! 📈 lean into what you are good at and the rest will follow ⛷ embrace what you aren't good at - we need people of all skill sets and backgrounds to solve wicked challenges 👨👩👧 seek out mentors, coaches and sponsors to help boost your career 🤝 build and maintain relationships and networks - relationships make life more fun! 🧠 think about how you can raise your profile within your network - LinkedIn is a great tool for this What have you found helpful in your career? #careerdevelopment

This week, Schønning and I wrapped up our guest lecture series at the University of Stavanger! We had the privilege of working with an incredible group of master’s students, bringing real-world innovation to the classroom. It was important for us to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world innovation, connecting the theory of Challenge-Driven Innovation (CDI) and ecosystems directly to some of the real projects they were working on. We shared real examples from the frontlines of industry, focusing on how companies are navigating the complexities of scaling innovation. It was rewarding to see how these could spark new ideas for them - just as they have in my own experience. It was a great opportunity to show students that success in today’s world comes from smart collaboration and leveraging the power of networks - we explored how ecosystems and external partnerships are playing a crucial role in solving big challenges and delivering value. A real stand out was having Narve Hansen join us to dive deeper into how Norwegian Offshore Wind Accelerator and Wazoku have been engaging a range of industry partners & start ups globally — demonstrating how corporates are increasingly relying on external collaborations to fuel their growth strategies. A huge thank you to Sigbjørn and Ruth for inviting us to be part of this fantastic experience. It’s always inspiring to see how collaboration between business and academia sparks fresh, innovative thinking. Looking forward to more collaborations like this! #ecosystems #innovation
