Becoming a better hiring manager isn’t just about filling gaps in your workforce. It’s about being a maestro in the symphony of human capital. It’s about seeing potential, nurturing talent, and building a team that’s resilient, diverse, and innovative. As they say in the classroom, it’s not about having the right answers; it’s about asking the right questions.

You want Diversity? Try hiring someone without a college degree or MBA for a position that obviously does not need one. Try hiring someone from outside your industry. Try finding people who don't think like all the other people you are hiring.

Either you do as she says, or they won’t last! Experience, numbers, facts suggest that you should look for things that are substantial. When it comes down to proper work, actual concerns and questions will be different, less theoretical, more pragmatic and connected to our realities: - are we getting things done? - are we solving problems? - are we realibale? - are we trustworthy? - are we honest? - are we adding value? - are we effective? - are we aware that our livelihoods depend on our outcomes? - are we establishing sustainable relationships? And so it would go on. Hire for actual🔥, not just simple 🧨

Becoming an elite hiring manager is less about a checklist of skills and more about a mindset shift. It's about embracing data while enhancing human interaction, seeking continuous improvement, and viewing every hire as a step toward building not just a team but a legacy. In this talent gladiator arena, only those who adapt, empathize, and strategize will lead their troops to victory. So, strap on your armor, sharpen your wits, and prepare to become the Zeus of hiring. Your Olympus awaits.

Attention, hiring managers. Please put some thought into why someone should want to do the role you’re hiring for. I know you want someone who ticks all of your boxes. Who has all the skills and experience that will let them ‘hit the ground running’ (essentially, someone who has done the exact same job somewhere else). But if you’re going to attract that person, or someone close to it, you need to think about, and communicate, why they would want to do it. Hint - helping YOU achieve what YOU want is probably not going to be that motivating for them.

Previously, you’ve typically only hired when you had an open position, but you’re thinking this strategy has become a bit outdated. You want to move into a position where you’re hiring for long-term success instead of simply focusing on immediate needs.
