According to T&D Word, the funding, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is intended to help electric utilities and grid operators install upgrades with potential to fight climate change and extreme weather, while helping deliver reliable and often renewable energy. The Grid Deployment Office, established in August 2022 to maintain and invest in critical transmission, distribution and generation of power, is allocating $10.5 billion toward the Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships (GRIP) projects. There are three different grants that each project falls under; the Grid Resilience Utility and Industry Grants, Smart Grid Grants, and Innovation Grants. Keep reading to learn how these grants work and how they can help us get a GRIP on grid upgrades! https://bit.ly/3vrjHsM #SouthernStates #SouthernStatesLLC #TDWorld #gridupgrades #grants #gridreliability #electricgrid #utilityindustry #power #powersolutions #inthenews #lastestnews #hamptonga

MIT Research that was undertaken after the 2021 Texas winter storm, suggested that connecting ERCOT to the nation’s broader grid could have prevented some of the blackouts. "The Biden administration is putting $1.5 billion toward four electric power projects, including a connection to the Southeast for Texas’s isolated grid, it announced on Thursday. The four projects are expected to improve grid reliability and improve energy access" #electricity #transmission #energy #energytransition #energypolicy #infrastructure

As #InterconnectionWeek comes to a close, we are calling attention to the final reform proposed in our latest report “Unlocking America’s Energy”: ⚡speed up the transmission construction backlog. By working to both improve reporting during the transmission project construction phase and increase industry and government collaboration to reduce supply chain bottlenecks, we can help alleviate constraints for developers, grid operators, and #transmission owners. At a time of growing electricity demand, worsening extreme weather, and a wave of investment in advanced manufacturing and energy infrastructure, the U.S. risks falling short of its economic and energy goals without transmission to deliver reliable, affordable, and clean power across the country. Ceres, Inc. and the businesses we work with applaud Federal Energy Regulatory Commission commissioners for finalizing this important rule, which promises to help unlock critical transmission projects by assessing their many benefits and the long-term needs of the electric grid. This is a necessary step to maximize the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, key state policies, and the surge of private-sector investments in America to build out an abundant and prosperous clean energy economy.
