Executive Director of Canada's Building Trades Unions/Les Syndicats des metiers de la construction du Canada
📣 CALLING ALL APPRENTICES – The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant is currently slated to sunset as of March 31, 2025. Eligible apprentices should apply NOW to receive a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year or level, for a lifetime maximum of $2,000 per apprentice. Additionally, the Apprenticeship Completion Grant, also winding down as of March 31, 2025, provides a one-time taxable cash grant lifetime amount of $2,000 per person for a registered apprentices who complete their apprenticeship training and obtain their journeyperson certification. While we are advocating with the government to extend and restore these incentives for recruiting new apprentices into the skilled trades, we are strongly encouraging our eligible apprentices to make use of these grants before they’re gone. At current rates of participation and completion, federal and state government-registered apprenticeship programs will fail to meet the construction industry’s short- and long-term skilled workforce needs, according to ABC analysis. ABC estimates that the construction industry’s federal and state GRAPs had about 250,000 apprentice participants and yielded just 40,000 to 45,000 completers in fiscal year 2023. https://ow.ly/uqRW50QGHF1 #ABCMeritShopProud

When I took up office in 2020, 5,000 people registered as apprentices in the year. New figures today show we have now reached a new record! Last year, we reached a record 8,714 apprentices registering - a 63% increase. We are meeting our craft targets and next year, we will roll out 17 new programmes in really exciting areas. I have spent the past few years advocating for a change in mindsets around apprenticeships. I have visited 80 secondary schools in a year encouraging students to take up this third level route. We have worked to put in supports for employers and for apprentices. We have set up a new National Apprenticeship Office. We have dramatically expanded capacity in training centres. And we have published an apprenticeship action plan with clear action and timelines to drive progress. And it is working. We are seeing record numbers, we are seeing an expansion in apprenticeships available and we are seeing more education providers and employers get involved. Crucially, these figures help us meet our housing targets with significant number of craft apprentices registered. But they also show people are taking up are programmes outside the traditional trades. Thank you to all who work in this exciting area in third level education. Thank you to everyone who is working so hard on this crucial agenda. Lets keep going. On Jan. 17, 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor published a proposed rule that would make significant and controversial revisions to the National Apprenticeship System, which will affect ABC members, chapters, apprentices and other industry stakeholders participating in government-registered apprenticeship programs. Brett Mutnick, Vice President of Construction with ColonialWebb and ABC-VA Board Member, summed up five key takeaways you need to know about the proposed rule. Press play to watch 5 Takeaways from the Proposed DOL Apprenticeship Rule (less than two minutes). We encourage anyone participating in an apprenticeship training program to submit their comments to the Department of Labor. Jefferson College has been awarded a $3.9 million grant from the Department of Labor to spearhead a consortium of Missouri schools in the establishment of apprenticeship programs in advanced manufacturing, nursing, and teacher education over the next four years. The consortium includes Jefferson College, Mineral Area College, Three Rivers College, East Central College, and Central Methodist University. "This grant represents a significant opportunity for Jefferson College to lead in the implementation of vital apprenticeship programs that will strengthen our local workforce and provide students with valuable, hands-on experience in high-demand fields," said Dr. Dena McCaffrey, President of Jefferson College. The Department of Labor has awarded over $244 million through two grant programs to modernize, diversify, and expand the Registered Apprenticeship system in growing U.S. industries. Nearly $195 million is part of the second round of the Apprenticeship Building America 2 (ABA2) initiative, which supports public-private partnerships across a range of industries and demographics. The ABA2 program aims to expand the use of Pre-Apprenticeships and Registered Apprenticeships in in-demand fields such as teacher education, nursing, and advanced manufacturing. This initiative is designed to help build a skilled and diverse workforce supporting communities across the country through 52 grantees located in 32 states. Read more at https://bit.ly/MoSEPWork.

As the largest workforce education provider for the electronics manufacturing industry, IPC applauds U.S. President Joe Biden's recent Executive Order aimed at expanding apprenticeships across the United States. We think it's a helpful step forward to direct the federal government to expand apprenticeships within its own ranks and incentivize industry participation through procurement and grant incentives. This action aligns with IPC's ongoing efforts and follows the U.S. Department of Labor's approval last November of IPC's National Program Standards of Apprenticeship – a historic milestone for the U.S. electronics manufacturing industry. Closing the workforce gap with speed and scale is crucial, particularly in an industry where tens of thousands of new workers will be needed over the next decade. Stay tuned for more IPC initiatives in this area, coming soon. Check out the White House fact sheet for more information. https://lnkd.in/ee528h4E

Fastrack into Information Technology (FIT) considers is a privilege working alongside Apprenticeship Ireland as we continue to strive to showcase the success of Tech Apprenticeships in Ireland. The concept of Apprenticeships as a means of fulfilling the needs of Tech departments with highly skilled and enthusiastic tech talent continues to grow. The question is can employers afford not to employ Tech Apprentices who have shown their commitment and enthusiasm to training and working hard in a time when retaining talent is a challenge for all. #techcareers #softwaredeveloper #computernetworking #cybersecurity #apprentices #earlycareers #techtalent
