Today is the International Women in Engineering Day, a day to honor the outstanding achievements of women engineers and to encourage more girls and women to pursue careers in engineering! 💚 It is also a good day to mention that Elin Engqvist and Maria Vennerström from #Valmet are named on a list of the ten most inventive women in Sweden published by the Swedish Patent Office - congratulations! 🎉 We are very proud to have two employees on this list and the patent department conducted an interview with Elin and Maria to find out what makes a good inventor. FEMTECH IS NOT NICHE! I've been shouting this for more than half a decade. When is it going to become obvious that innovations and products aimed at over half the population is a huge and viable sector, not some marginal interest group? Yes to all of this from Vanessa Julia Carpenter, PhD. Also, continuing to view femtech as niche also sets it up for minimal oversight, safety, and broader ethical concerns. I saw that firsthand in the parenting tech space and it's an issue in AI-based wearables and ARTs already. As part of our #WomeninHydrogen campaign, we had the chance to talk to Bethany Hall, Senior Systems Integration Engineer at GKN Aerospace.   When asked what specific programs or initiatives she believes would help more female leaders in the hydrogen sector, Bethany explained 3 things that are important to focus on:   Technical work: Bethany highlighted “It is important to prioritise technical work that brings females together, so younger women and girls can learn from this and see it in reality. This means showcasing and platforming women’s technical capabilities and bringing them into technical discussions, as well bringing them together on topics such as underrepresentation in the sector.”   Perception shift: “greater efforts towards changing perceptions surrounding sustainable development, and the importance of sectors such as hydrogen for the decarbonisation of sectors such as aerospace. New technology requires new ways of working, which means a really exciting time to join the sector!”   Engaging with younger demographics: “extending initiatives and engaging with younger audiences, as well as highlighting and addressing the impact of the climate crisis on marginalized groups and women, as a means to empower them to take action through careers in engineering and in the Hydrogen sector.” If you'd like to find out more about our campaign, find more information here 👉 https://lnkd.in/ggqSAtuX

This year's theme, #EnhancedByEngineering, serves as a poignant reminder that the future of engineering, and the world, is brighter and more innovative when women are actively included. For too long the engineering field has overlooked the critical insights and needs of women. Traditional human-centered design often assumes a male default, neglecting the needs and perspectives of half the population. From crash test dummies that reflect the female form to medical devices designed with women’s physiology in mind, embracing gender diversity in engineering leads to more effective, safe, and widely beneficial products. 😳 The female turnover rate in the high-tech industry is 2.5 times higher than in other fields, and it's projected to take another 40 years before women achieve equal representation and contribution in the high-tech industry. 🤯 🙅🏼 That just won’t do. 750 women, one mission: Our women@Rheinmetall network wants to actively help shape the future of Rheinmetall – with project ideas from within the community.  The mission of the community is clearly defined for the next few years: To create a space where the femininity and potential of every person is seen as a key contribution to Rheinmetall’s business success. Today you can read why Janina Lemme sees her role in the core team of women@Rheinmetall as enrichment. Janina Lemme has been a part of the core team for over a year. She works at the Unterlüß site as an IT project coordinator. In addition to her expertise in the fields of IT and project management, Women@Rheinmetall is enriched by her proximity to employees in production. “It is important to me to reach more women in production and those without a computer workplace. This is something we want to work on. After all, we want to benefit from ideas from every individual in the company.” What is Janina Lemme’s wish for the future? “That employees recognize the value added of our network for the company. Especially at the beginning, we were often asked what we even hoped to achieve. But everything that we do is meaningful and goal-oriented.
