Retail gas stations tend to use USTs to store their fuel to save on space. Think about it, having a huge fuel tank aboveground may not be an ideal use of land when you need spots for cars to park and refuel! Plus, with the recent uptake in on-site car washes and restaurants the need for real estate is even GREATER! 💪 - #RetailFueling #SupplyIntallMaintain #FuelingFundamentals

🚀 𝐉𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐝 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 💡 Did you know? The first self-service gas station in the U.S. opened in 1947 in Los Angeles. This innovative concept, introduced by Frank Urich, revolutionized how we refuel, paving the way to the modern convenience store! 🛢️ 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐈𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬: Self-service allowed customers to pump their own gas, reducing costs and wait times, and paving the way for the convenience stores we know today. It marked the start of a new era in automotive history. 👀 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: "At these early self-serve stations, the pumps ran by a mechanical computer that allowed an attendant to manually turn the pump back to zero for each new customer. The worker also collected money and returned for customers who pumped their own fuel." 🚀 Stay tuned and be on the lookout for another insight coming Thursday! Revisiting some of our best 2024 customer successes... “Thanks to NRM and their CoolTrol temperature controls, I am known to have the coldest beer in town. I love the Shutdown Button! It is great during deliveries, because for 20 minutes the fans do not blow on my employees and delivery drivers, and then the fans come back on automatically after. I love that everything is digital and easy to read. My SMECO Electric Bill is always low and more cost effective!” One of the things NRM has spent considerable effort over the years perfecting is the user-friendliness of our smart controls and operational features. The most common businesses to benefit from NRM’s solution are liquor stores, convenience stores, and restaurants; businesses run by everyday people. The #refrigeration upgrades NRM offer wouldn’t be nearly as valuable to our customers if the learning curve to use them required an advanced degree in mechanical engineering. Their ease of use—along with their provable results, of course—is why so many utility providers like SMECO in southern Maryland include them in their small business energy-efficiency programs. Jay Chahaun, GM of Portside Liquors in Bryans Road, MD, is one such person who sought to benefit from receiving retrofit improvements, but needed something both he and his staff could actually use. It’s why our controller comes with a labeled keypad and LCD screen that displays live temperature and any alerts. It also contains info such as runtimes, scheduling, a one-button defrost, and a Timed System Shutdown feature that turns off the system safely for 20 minutes while people are working in the walk-in cooler and then automatically starts back up. Along with the controls, Portside Liquors had the motors in their cooler fans updated to newer models, their novelty soda coolers set on a scheduler, electric defrost, and anti-sweat door heater controls that manage their runtimes, as well. All of these together lowered Portside Liquor’s annual kWh usage by over 20,000 kWh! This works out to roughly $2,800 in actual dollar savings on their annual bill compared to before. They’ve had the controls since 2018, meaning they’ve spent over $10,000 LESS in electric costs than if they did nothing. To top it off, SMECO covered 80% of the project cost! #rethinkrefrigeration #energysavings #energyefficiency
