Thank you to my panel of experts — Prof Epee Emilienne, Prof Alison K., Prof Anil Krishna, Prof Jai Das — for the insightful discussion on placing communities at the center of disease elimination at the #GLIDEsymposium. We've learned that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to engaging communities; it is mainly country, disease, and, more generally, context-specific. A deep understanding of community dynamics and the community itself enables the implementation of tailored activities that contribute to and support disease elimination efforts. #diseaseElimination #beatntds #UniteToEliminate #communityempowerment
Dear Pr Épée, after ASTMH, you had another opportunity to share insights and recommendations on community engagement in Cameroon at the #glidesymposium in a panel moderated by #Aïssatou Diawara, Phd, Mph. These results stem from collaborative efforts between the #Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE) and MOH Cameroon. Addressing misconceptions and alcohol consumption is crucial, alongside understanding the motivations of community distributors. Addressing the disease to achieve elimination should prioritize placing the community at the center. A community-centered approach is essential for accessing hubs, especially targeting the often overlooked reservoirs of various diseases. #Dr Aïssatou Diawara . #Global Institute for Disease Elimination (Glide)

Brilliant to see neglected tropical diseases (#NTDs) included in the global health section of the C7 Communiqué, thanks to great advocacy work by NTD networks Canadian Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases / Réseau Canadien pour les MTNs and Deutsches Netzwerk gegen vernachlässigte Tropenkrankheiten (DNTDs) through Civil7 Italy 2024 held this week. The C7 Communiqué will be presented to G7 sherpas ahead of the G7 Summit which kicks off in Puglia, Italy in June. We need #G7 leaders to take action to #BeatNTDs. A week of collective action among majors... Will there be a medical crisis in March as the situation worsens? Residents at several hospitals in Gwangju protested, leading to a crisis in the city's medical system. Gwangju and Jeonnam Province have begun full-scale response to the crisis at each level of hospitals, including creating emergency contact networks and providing extended treatment hours. Operating rooms and beds are now prioritized according to the severity of the disease at tertiary general hospitals, which has further increased the burden on secondary hospitals. Many full-time doctors and interns are leaving their hospitals, and concerns are being raised that a medical crisis is imminent. #AsiaRisk #EpidemicsandPandemics #SouthKorea Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gn-hS3HX

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) claim 41 million lives yearly, representing 75% of global deaths, as per the World Health Organization. In Africa, the detection, screening, and treatment of NCDs, along with palliative care, remain challenging. Advocacy groups in Kenya are urging the government to integrate NCDs screening into care and treatment at all levels. #leadonNCDs #ActonNCDs
