When we talk about universal access to information, the conversation also needs to include a discussion on how to ensure that individuals are gaining access to reliable, fact-checked, research-based information, or, at the very least, how to foster the critical thinking skills necessary to assess the validity and truth of what people are reading and sharing online. #InformationAccess #Equity #Research #Misinformation #DigitalLiteracy #CriticalThinking #EquityInAccess #MediaLiteracy

Social mobilization is a process that focuses on developing context-specific ways to work with various individuals and groups, including often marginalized ones, to facilitate long-lasting change. It uplifts community leaders and influencers as agents of change and is often used as a tool in health education. Through social mobilization, communities work together toward a common goal. #CommunityEngagement #SocialMobilization #BuildingTrust #SustainableDevelopment #HealthEducation

WI-HER works closely with community influencers in a variety of public health interventions and recognizes that engaging with men is critical to achieving gender equality. Here, an influencer shares how he's applying what he's learned. "As an influencer, I now strongly understand that hygiene promotion activities at home should involve everyone. I encourage fellow men to understand and appreciate the value of women's contributions to the households at home and also help out in keeping our houses clean." - Lopeyok Lokwang influencer, in Moroto District, Uganda #CommunityEngagement #LocalLeadership #PublicHealth #GenderEquality #AccelerateEquality #Uganda

This World Development Information Day, we uplift the importance of considering the ethical use of statistics in international development work. Different stories can be told depending on how data is interpreted and used; it is our responsibility as development practitioners to share culturally relevant, appropriate, and representative data that is equitably accessible to interested parties and local communities.
