Reinventing services and organisations, moving beyond traditional ways of working. Leading and empowering new ways of working.
What a great example of stripping out the unnecessary steps, and focusing on value. All led by the person and what matters to them. As I was listening, I realised that this is how it used to work before New Public Management got in the way! The practitioner would: 1. Have enough time to understand what matters to a person. 2. Decide who the person should see. 3. She that person to the next practitioner. 4. Each practitioner would decide there end then when they should see them next. Listen and understand what matters with the person. No standard assessments Manage risk rather than risk avoidance. Decide the next steps with the person.
Thanks New Local for brilliantly hosting a webinar about our Community Appointment Days with Laura Finucane and Natalie Blunt. It was great to see so much interest from all over the country about where the idea came from, how they are run and what makes them tick. Loads of questions in the chat all the way through and heart-warmingly - people sharing their experience of trialling CADs in their areas. Fast Approaching - Legal Essentials for Caring for your Aging Parents. A Chance to learn more and have the dialogues before you need them. Check your calendar Monday November 13th at 6:00 pm. The goal is to be prepared with not only documents but knowledge to be able to easily step in when you are needed. This year I have had many families that either had Trusts that needed updated and reviewed or did not have any documents at all. This caused more work at a quicker pace to allow the family to step in help their parent. If family dynamics are an issue, which is also happening more and more, this should be discussed and addressed in planning. The goal is to center on the parents in need and be able to quickly assess their options. Please tell others that might want to learn more and to see Maplewood Long Term Care in Twinsburg. It helps to have looked at options and have your questions answered before having to need to use them. Maplewood is respectful and engages their residents. I hope we will see you next Monday at 6 pm. #estateplanning #forwardthinking #proactiveapproach

2,000+ Stakeholders’ Input 20+ Community Meetings First plan since 1977, and the third in the city’s history — since 1846! #GrowGadsden #UrbanPlanning #CityPlanning #CityManagement
In early 2023, the City of Gadsden, Alabama retained GMC's planning experts to develop the city’s first comprehensive plan in nearly 50 years – GROW Gadsden. Following several months of community engagement, research, meetings with local leaders and more, the final plan has been revealed! The plan is an action-oriented, strategic guide for the City shaped by the community’s values and establishes a collective vision, with short- and long-term actions to achieve that vision. The specific goals and recommendations of this plan have been developed based on extensive input from the residents of Gadsden to work toward the overall vision established by the public. 🔗 Learn more about the plan: https://bit.ly/49qPtEB #buildingcommunities #gmcnetwork #GMCAlabama #planning #GROWGadsden

We are in the planning stages for the 14th National Innovative Communities Conference, and we can't wait to see what exciting initiatives are developed based on what those in attendance discuss and learn. Eleven years ago, the NICC inspired the founders of the city of Jurupa Valley to launch their Healthy City initiative, Healthy Jurupa Valley. What is Healthy Jurupa Valley? **** HJV is part of a global movement of healthy city initiatives that work to improve the health and quality of life of all residents. Healthy Jurupa Valley is a public/private partnership between the City of Jurupa Valley and the nonprofit agency Reach Out. The mission is to inspire residents to ignite change, bringing greater health, safety, and quality of life to everyone in the city. The initiatives we've undertaken in the past decade are far-reaching, and the impacts are broad. ✅ Through the efforts of this initiative, HJV has increased green space, community gardens, and awareness of substance abuse issues and vaccine availability. ✅ We've held leadership academies to empower community members to become leaders and share resources. ✅ We've created "Shop the Walk" events to drive connection between local business and the community, and hosted face-to-face meetings with elected officials to allow them to meet the community members they represent. Health represents so much more than physical well-being, and the HJV initiative has grown community connection, safety, and well-being in immeasurable ways. We can't wait to bring this program to more Inland Empire cities! #NICC #innovativecommunities #communitydevelopment #HealthyJurupaValley #healthycityinitiative #bluezones

Here is a great example of what a typical activity looks like in a residential assisted living! A large room with a few residents participating in chair exercises! The caregiver to resident ratio is like nothing you will find in big box facilities 🥰 THIS is what makes us different! #ComingSoon #SeniorLiving #ResidentialAssistedLiving #Community #Countdown #NewBeginnings #CoastalHavenLiving #CoastalHaven #OrangeCounty

People living in Willenhall in #Coventry are working alongside Grapevine #CommunityOrganisers and building their collective power as they campaign for improved park and play facilities in their neighbourhood. Through a series of community focus groups at the tail end of 2023, the ‘Willenhall Coalition’ identified which community priority it needed to tackle first. Members decided that by focusing on a community park or play area they could help people improve their physical and mental health, create a space for social interaction, build a greater sense of community and support local children and their families. How does a #CommunityOrganising approach help ordinary people take action and make change? 📣 So far our community organisers Edwin and Gemma have helped the Willenhall Coalition research other Coventry parks, draw up a 'most wanted' play equipment list, speak to around 200 residents, collect nearly 70 local surveys and initiate meetings with council services. The group hopes that focusing on improving Brookstray Park will help: 🌳 People improve their physical and mental health 🌳 Create a space for social interaction 🌳 Build a greater sense of community 🌳 Support local children and their families. Addressing some of the contributing factors to Willenhall’s historical population #HealthInequalities. Moving the community a step closer to becoming healthier, happier and more connected. Winning some or all of the changes they want will make tackling future community priorities in #Willenhall possible. Read more about this #ShiftingPower work in our latest blog. Link in the comments 🔗 Grapevine is working in Willenhall alongside local people, the voluntary and community sector, the NHS and Coventry City Council to improve local health and wellbeing under the #HealthyCommunitiesTogether programme.
