Monopile installation failed! 😳 Monopile foundation for offshore wind generators (VTG) Soft seabed substrate, the monopile usually needs to be driven in using a hydraulic hammer. In this cae it made it’s own way down without any help! If it has gone too deep they won’t be able to put the yellow transition piece TP, on top. That’s the bit that the Wind Turbine Generator WTG is mounted on. Also might not be able to retrieve it! Could be an expensive failure... Imagine the installation failure and the huge cost of this monopile with respect to significant consequences in terms of potential loss of life and environmental damages. Offshore Installations are one of the engineering stages that doesn't accommodate either low or high certainty errors. The stage needs high level of experience, skills and careful attention.

As commercial maritime operations venture into deeper, more demanding offshore environments, having secure and accurate data on operational currents is critical for optimizing vessel operations safely. The Nortek VM Operations Series emerges as a crucial innovation, offering real-time oceanographic data tailored for the offshore market. This technology plays a pivotal role in sub-seabed mapping for new offshore wind farm developments. The challenge in establishing offshore wind farms is considerable. These ventures require extensive planning to navigate and mitigate risks effectively. A significant concern during the construction and installation phases is the potential presence of hazards beneath the seabed, particularly unexploded ordnance (pUXO). Detecting these hazards promptly and accurately is a critical step that must be addressed before any construction begins. #OffshoreInnovation #MaritimeSafety #NortekVMSeries #Oceanography #WindFarmDevelopment #SubseaMapping #RenewableEnergy #MarineTechnology #pUXOSafety #OffshoreWindFarms Nortek

As reported by Recharge below, we have just completed a comprehensive multi-client wind, metocean and environmental survey for current and upcoming offshore wind lease rounds off the US East Coast! 🥇This is the largest such survey in the US, including for the Central Atlantic lease round, where site awards are expected in August. 🗾 TGS deployed five floating LiDAR buoys provided by EOLOS Floating Lidar Solutions, covering nearly 600km of coastline from Massachusetts to the Virginia/North Carolina border for a two-year period through July 2024. 💵 The multi-client model helps offshore wind stakeholders reduce costs and timescales associated with acquiring bankable wind and metocean data while minimizing energy uncertainty. 💨 We have used the collected data to bias-correct high-resolution Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) model simulations, creating the most extensive and validated high-resolution wind resource dataset along the U.S. East Coast. Well done by our US team Katja Akentieva, Scott Eichelberger, Katie Applebaum, Ernest Washington, Laura Arti, Mike Connatty

Can your new harbour structure cope with local currents and waves? Will the #mooringsystem of an #offshorewind installation withstand the winds and waves? #Metocean data are crucial for planning, designing and testing offshore and nearshore installations. But how to make sense of them all? Neil Luxcey and Lasse Bjermeland explain how #SFI BLUES with funding from Norges forskningsråd can be of assistance:
Easier access to metocean weather data
