Department of Energy to provide $325 Million for long-duration energy storage projects   The DOE funding for 15 Projects aims to advance energy storage technologies, enhance clean energy adoption, and reduce impacts on the grid from extreme weather events fueled by climate change. The Department of Energy (DOE) will be providing up to $325 million for 15 projects across 17 states and one tribal nation to accelerate the development of long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies according to a department press release. These demonstration projects, which are funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, are intended to increase community control of local power systems, mitigate risks associated with disruptions to the grid, and help communities develop reliable and affordable energy systems. An Energy Earthshot. The noted projects are part of the DOE’s Energy Earthshots Initiative, which aims to reduce the cost of LDES by 90 percent by 2030 and accelerate breakthroughs of more abundant, affordable, and reliable clean energy solutions within the decade. The DOE also states that these undertakings will advance critical clean energy technologies, expand the adoption of renewable energy resources, and strengthen America’s energy security.
